MPD/DID... anyone?
« on: October 02, 2012, 11:20:52 AM »
Hey, I was just wondering how many, or if anyone here has MPD/DID?

I dont personally have it but my two best friends do and I would not mind having more friends, and specifically for help with it with them?

Since I only have two multiple friends, if I have questions on something how to deal with it etc I can only go to one or the other. And sometimes that doesnt work since theyre half friends too.

Just wondering if anyone here has it too or who does/how many of you do?

Also for anyone here who does, would it ever be okay to come to you and ask for advise about it if I have questions, or to just befriend you?

Thanks, just wondering =)

I would enjoy PMing back and forth

I don't really have this disease, though I feel like most diseases are to some extent partially experienced by many people. To me, multiple personality disorder is the inability to get "out of character". Like, I am a different person around different people - that, in a sense, is having "multiple personalities". But the medical establishment doesn't usually look at it that way. So I think of it kind of as "acting gone bad". And a good DID film seems to be "Persona", if I understand DID well enough. The person does something bad and has trouble identifying them with the bad thing done. Dissociation actually is a healthy thing in the right doses - if you try to take responsibility for everything in the world, it can be an overwhelm! But some people try to dissociate themselves from good and normal things, which is maybe the source of problems and pain. These are just my thoughts based on limited reading and understanding and experience.

I would love to help and talk as much as I can!

Cheers!

uhmm well actually not quite.

Im not by any means an expert and really dont know a lot myself either, other than what I have seen daily for the last almost two years with my two friends who have it.

its not just personas, your brain actually splits into different personalities creating whole new people. They are full seperate people that switch in. When a switch occurs they talk, walk, etc differently. There is also "headspace" which is a literal physical world within the mind where they live.

DID is very different with everyone though.

idk how to explain it well and im kinda out of it right now haha :P but its very complicated. and even me having *lived* with it for almost two years (it being part of my every day life and "normal" to me now because I talk to these friends every day, 0366 with them, and have even met my one friend this summer) I dont know a lot or much and its still confusing.

but yeah, I guess I was just wondering if there was anyone else here who has it that knows a lot about it that could help :P

but thanks for the offer ! =)

In my experience with being in treatment, I have seen so many people misdiagnosed with DID. It has caused me to be a little skeptical of its existence. I say this because I am not the only one; there are a lot of doctors and experts out there who do not believe this is an actual illness...they believe these people are just really good actors. I am trying to be more open-minded about it though, as I am going into the psychology field. There are a lot of people out there who have been diagnosed with DID, believe they have DID, but they actually don't. I have never met someone who actually has it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. When I am finally working in my profession, I hope to meet someone who actually has it and hopefully I'll be able to tell that they actually have it.

I say all this because spitfireatme is speaking as a skeptic, and I am warning you that there are many skeptics out there and a stigma surrounding the disease. I am just as guilty of the skepticism.

Anyway, if you want to learn more about the disease, there are plenty of internet resources out there. You could even join a DID forum and talk to people who have it. Just a suggestion.  :winking0008:
