Still IBS or Ovarian cancer
« on: October 11, 2007, 09:49:34 AM »
I am having IBS since about 3 years now. It was really bad last year. Finally I had a break for about 6 weeks but since a week I have gas pain again and I feel a little nauseaus. I had this before with my IBS but how do I know that it's IBS again or something else like Ovarien cancer ?
I read an aritcle that symphtoms are similar and that scared me. I did have a ct scan in May 2006 and it would have shown cancer but it luckely didn't. How do I know nothing scary developed in the meantime ? By the way I am 37 and so far I don't have any family history with
ovarian cancer but I just can't help being scared. I know you can't have ct scans all the time since that is unhealthy too but how can I calm myself down ??

Hey there,

I don't know if this will help you or not, but I had the same symptoms that you do, and I just had a pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound, and they were both normal.  Nothing was found.

People with HA tend to have a LOT of gas and gas pain, I know I do, and I worried about it too, but I'm okay, at least there's no cancer there.  I'm worried about bone cancer now though. >:(

Anyway, I think you're fine, you're probably just very nervous.  I have IBS too and have had it for years and your symptoms all match mine.

All the best,
Melly

I had a fear of ovarian cancer early this year and had the same symptoms as you. I had the same tests as Melly and mine came back normal as well.  She is right, IBS and abdominal discomfort are another major side effect of anxiety.  Try following an IBS diet, drinking plenty of water and doing lots of excercise it really helped my pain.
