For those with floaters....
« on: September 21, 2007, 08:39:49 AM »
For those of you that have floaters or visual disturbances, what do you see exactly and did you   get floaters when your anxiety started? I have had floaters since Dec I think and have had my eye looked at twice, but Istill can't help but worry something is wrong with my brain!

I've had floaters all my life. I usually only notice them in the sun and I really haven't payed attention to them in a while. I've always heard it normal and that most if not all people get them from time to time. They look like little black fuzz balls to me. Hardly noticable most of the time. There's nothing wrong with your brain or eyes!

Little black fuzzy dots, squiggles, stringy things... they move around when I move my eyes and keep on drifting when I stop. I've had them as long as I can remember, but I think there are more of them as time goes by. I remember once as a young child I thought I was seeing God's beard!!  :laugh3:
They are more noticeable in bright light, looking at computer screen etc.
I can't vouch for the anxiety connection, but it's possible you are more sensitive to things when anxious, so more likely to notice them?
In any case they are nothing to worry about!

Thanks for the replys! It is amazing what alittle reassureance can do! :goofy:  So has anyone noticed if they have actually gone away and came back? Mine haven't, but I am curious to see. Although there has been no direct link to anxiety and floaters, floaters are VERY common for people with anxiety. I didn't have them until I had anxiety. So heres my questions: If we train ourselves to RELAX again and can get back to normal, would the floaters go away?

I don't know if they'll ever go away but you'll get to where you won't notice them if you just don't think something is wrong with you every time you see one.

Exactly, you don't really need them to go away, you just need to not be afraid of them.

well for me i know what floaters are which don't worry me they kinda look just like see throw lines, but what I'm talking about seems more than just floaters but Ive heard people call them that. The way i can explain what i see is when i look at the sky or CPU screen i see something that looks like a million tiny dots flying around very fast.Yeah i know it sounds crazy. Its like fireworks in my eyes or maybe i see my neurons lol.I still havent heard of anyone with this same thing and id love to here someone that does. The one thing is i had this before and it WENT AWAY for 8 years which was the last time i had heavy anxiety. So i beleave anxiety plays a very big part.

Is it in one small part of your vision? I sometimes see what you describe, when I'm tired, if I stare into space I will start to see a small patch of fuzzy moving colours like that. I don't know if that's what you mean?

Yes, and they are all kind of squirming around amongst each other. That's what I see. It's in a small patch roughly in the centre of wherever I'm looking.
It's good to know others have this too. I don't know what it is, but I've had it a long time as well. I don't think it's strictly floaters, seems different. I have wondered if it's a migraine aura (although I've not had migraines). It does happen more when I'm tired.
