Speech difficulties anyone??
« on: April 08, 2006, 10:55:51 AM »
Does anyone else have on and off problems with speaking? My tongue feels either slightly swollen, lazy and often dry and when i try talk i kind of get stuck on words and slur a little. found that if i have a glass of wine (just the one!) and i guess relax that this eases. When i worry about it it gets worse, but it can start when i'm completely relaxed and thinking about something else. :P

I can find my twitching, weakness, pins and needles atc on anxiety symptom sites but not this. After promising myself I wouldn't google symptoms I did and some woman with pins and needles and slurred speech was told she had anxiety but it turned out to be a brain tumour. Great! And I thought I just had to worry about MS!

Anyone who has speech issues I would love to hear from you. I must stress it comes and goes but can last all day.

Thanks!

Thanks for that! That is a great website you gave the link for. I used to use it all the time to 'check' symptoms but hadn't noticed the tongue thing because i was focussed on the speech aspect.

I've had a bad day (well few days) cos my dad was diagnosed with cancer 2 weeks back and now my mom who is a long term cancer survivor is starting to get symptoms that don't look good so she has to go for tests too... plus i'm a single mom,and all my other family live abroad so no support on-site. And i have a work deadline due in a few days. Then my son's dad had a surfing accident this week had his lip almost ripped right off so spent lots of time at hospital. It seems that i'm being attacked from all sides and of course my anxiety symptoms are going ape!Anyhow I guess if i look at all these factors it shouldn't surprise me that i'm having a bad time hey!

Re: Speech difficulties anyone?? And stress-related sciatica???

Thanks so much, miika! I could use all the prayers I can get! My mom spent all day at the ER with severe chest pains, my boss has refused to extend my deadline and my son has had too long of a holiday. Thankfully school's back tomorrow here in Cape Town... and my mom seems a bit better this evening.

Today's anxiety symptom is that old favourite, numb-face (next to my mouth) Feels like my skin is drooping but when i look in the mirror all looks normal so i guess no need to panic. :o

By the way, anyone else with sciatica type symptoms which get worse when under stress??

Just wanted to write to let you know that the numb face thing is panic or can be migraine.  I have had it since I was 10, so 14 years.  The doctor said I had migraine - which is not always just a headache it can be numb feelings around the nose and mouth, which I get especially on one side, above my lip.  The funny thing is, I think that the migraine is brought on by anxiety, so I am always in a vicious circle.  but please please try not to worry, as horrible as this feels, it is a symptom of anxiety, brought on by migraine/not breathing properly or whatever/ it is definatly a sign of anxiousness.

Apparently migraine can make you eyelid feel numb - this is something I had a few years back, googled it.. brain tumour...went to the doc he said no, definatly migraine was causing it. but luckily I haven't had that for a while.  I just wanted to try in  my clumsy way to re-assure you that numbing and tingling in the face is not necessarily anything serious.

Hi Chrissie

Thanks for that. It does help to be able to tick things off the list. The numb face thing sucks esp. when it affects the inside of my mouth.

Today is getting worse and worse. Not only is my speech really bad (or seems to feel bad to me though when i try say tongue twisters and stuff i can) but my fingers are so clumsy i keep on making typos. Not good for my copywriting work - or my anxiety when i see all those red spelling error lines all over the work!

The eyelid thing sounds horrible. Glad yours has stopped.

roll on my 3pm therapy session, thanks for 'holding my hand' inbetween!

MERMAID,
yes sciatia gets VERY WORSE.  Everything gets worse with STRESS.  I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE.  I guess our bodies just deal with things differantly.  Do you ever get afraid your going to DIE? Heather
