Scared about new beta-blocker meds
« on: February 04, 2012, 04:51:20 PM »
So im not on Metapropolol Beta-Blocker for my anxiety as well as high blood pressure. Anyway, I am really scared because I have read warnings that if I miss my medication I have a risk for a heart attack? Is this just for older patients or people on higher doses? I am only taking 25mg 2 times a day, will I be in danger of cardiac death now!? :( :( :(

Dantes: What is going on. Your post last night at 9 on this board says you are doing well on this med? Confusion here for members I'd imagine. Can you clarity what on earth is the position??

I am doing well on this med, but wasn't aware of all the possible side-effects if I quit! Now it seems that I will be on it forever, i'd really rather be on NO meds than any at all. Yes i'll deal with it if necessary, but i'd also like th option of discontinuing it if I lose more weight and my bp drops more.  :(

I'm still not entirely sure what you are saying, but if I'm right your three days in on a beta blocker which is helping.

You do not have to worry de discontinuation yet. You have only started! Get some benefit and talk to your doctor re longer term plans. Simple.

Best.

Hey dante,

I posted on your other beta-blocker thread but I'll post here in case you don't see it.

I take Propranolol 20 mg (another beta-blocker). My doctor told me I could take it everyday if I want, or just as needed.

But I'm a little unclear: Are you taking it for anxiety, high blood pressure, or both? I think you should probably see your doctor and bring up your concerns about any discontinuation effects. Be open and honest with them about how you think the Metoprolol is working (or not working) for your anxiety. And don't worry about being "stuck" on something forever. I know someone who took Atenolol for blood pressure, then went off of it after losing weight (under a doctor's supervision of course).

It sounds like you have a lot of anxiety over taking medication, and the best way to address this is to be open about your concerns with your doctor.

Take care!
