First love- Bad breakup
« on: February 01, 2012, 02:26:31 AM »
Hi there

I'm new to this whole forum thing, and I'm not quite sure how it works, but hopefully I'll get some sort of reply =)

I recently broke up with a guy I really cared about. I've been in a few relationships before him, but I think he might have been the first man i ever loved.  It's been really hard on me and ever since then I've been getting a lot of anxiety issues - amongst other things.

I'm also in the middle of pharmacy school and this (break up) has been the worst experience I've been through (and I've been through some pretty crazy stuff).

Everyone around me is so tired of being around me, and another things is that I'm really really really scared about being alone.

I guess I'm just wondering if there's anyone out there that has been through something like this or anything similar to this at all and what suggestions are out there.

Thanks if you read this far =)

Hi Star

I was in a similar situation. I was with my ex fiance for almost 7 years, and then she left rather suddenly because of my anxiety. So I know what you are going through. I had terrible periods where I panicked if I was alone, even for an hour.

It is a tough road, but my advice to you is:

1- Get angry; get sad; laugh... releasing emotions is very healing. Cry your eyes out when you are sad; it helps so much. Watch movies, whether sad or funny and release the appropriate emotions.

2- Get active. Burning off adrenalin with exercise helps a LOT. Even when you don't feel like it, just at least get up and run on the spot or do jumping jacks.

3- Know in your heart that these feelings will pass in time. It WILL get better, I promise that. And you will find another person to love and be loved by.

4- Use this time to get to know yourself again. Write down who you are, what you want from life etc.

I hope this can help.
Oh, and welcome to the forum, glad to have you here :-)

Thanks for the warm welcome =]

I'm really thinking this is going to help me a lot...I really like interacting with lots of people...I'm not sure why I've never thought about this before. I think maybe it's because I don't know how to navigate around too well BUTTTTT I'll get better at it.

Oh. And I have every single class with my ex. Every single one. He sits behind me too. Probably for 8 hours a day or more.  I think that's the worst part.  I would have been okay if I could have just walked away from him altogether...but now it's like I have to work with him. Worst. Idea. Ever.

I am glad you like it here so far. It is such a wonderful site.

Oh wow, that is really tough that you have to see him in all your classes.
But my advice remains the same. And just act friendly. Animosity and anger will only make you worse and will be a waste of time.

Sorry that you are going through this, but it will get better. Time is a great healer :-)
