HELP!: Worrying excessive about hemotologist appt on fri
« on: January 24, 2012, 04:52:04 PM »
So I have been told my wbc is ok (even though 4.1 ) 4.5 is the low range, and everything on my abdomenial ultrasound looks good as far as the tech is concerned... haven't heard official "ruling" but my platelets went from 144 in May 2011, to 133 in October 2011, to now 114 in Jan 2012.  I feel fine, I am a tiny bit tired but that is because I layed off caffeine, and I have 4 kids that keep me busy...  My doctor said she is sending me to rule out ITP... what are the other possiblities ??

Because my diet is poor, eat way to much fast food, and not 3 times a day.. could this be because I don't eat my fruits and veggies?  Friday can't come soon enough, and I just need to relax but I am having a hard time doing just that......

She also said I have a virus most likely that is taking my platelets... what does that mean...what kind of virus being that  I have no other symptoms of any kind and hemoglobin, b12, and other cbc test look good, liver looks great, spleen is normall....

The virus she is talking about could simply be some infection your body is fighting.  It could be as simple as a paper cut!  Are your lymph nodes swollen?

You could be anemic and need more iron in your diet.  I remember when I was a little girl, my mom was anemic and she ate liver several times a week.  Ugh!  These days, you can take a pill for it or liquid, thank goodness!

How did yoru appt go?

I work in a medical lab and can tell you there are many reasons why your values could change

Your doctor is the best to tell you

As for your WBC count being a bit low, mine runs like that all the time and is actually normal
