To call or not to call?
« on: January 20, 2012, 01:29:23 PM »
I had a screening mammogram on Tuesday afternoon.  I was told it could take a week to get the results back.  So, what to do?  It's Friday, do I call my gyn and see if they have the results or do I wait it out?  If I call and they say I need more imaging done, it will ruin my weekend.  If I don't call, it lingers in the back of my mind but I hold out hope that everything is fine.  I was told that for first time mammograms, they often call you back for more imaging.  So even if I do need more testing done, in my mind I will jump to the worst case scenario of having BC.  So what do I do?  Call or wait until next week?

Aww I bet it is nerve wracking waiting. But I would wait until next week before you phone. I am sure they would have called if there was something wrong and they needed to see you. Try your best to stay busy and keep yourself distracted. :-)

In my 30 years of having mammograms it has always take up to a week to get results - it's usually the standard letter in the mail saying everything is okay.  Our hospital/breast imaging center will call patients within 24 hours if the test comes back showing any issues.  If I were you, I wouldn't be concerned if you haven't heard anything yet.  Enjoy your weekend!

Hi,

I had a mammogram on Thursday last week. I was pretty sure
that if they needed more images they would have called me on
Friday or Monday. Even though they told me it would take a
week by Tuesday I couldn't wait anymore. I wasn't eating,
sleeping, etc. I called my OB/GYN office and they had the
results already. When I got home from work that night there
was a form letter in my mail from the imaging center saying
the mammogram was normal.

I think if anything is amiss or further imaging is needed they
get back to you quickly.  I would call for results, perhaps O
they have the results and you could have peace of mind and
enjoy your weekend. I honestly think if there is something
even remotely suspicious they call you within a day.

Isn't it odd how we can give out this advice but following
it ourselves is so much harder :)

Daisy, if they thought something was questionable and needed they would have called you by now. My sis in law got a call the next day after her last mammo because they saw some shadowing. Turned out to be nothing except microcalcifications which happen as breasts age. So no worries. They would have contacted you by now if they wanted more imagining.

Enjoy your weekend!  :action-smiley-065:

I took the advice that most of you gave which was to not call the gyn office to see if my results are in.  So, it's Saturday and I'm doing OK.  It's in the back of my mind, but I'm enjoying the weekend.  I'll keep you ladies posted when I do get the mammo results.
