Sleep
« on: January 19, 2012, 05:38:08 AM »
I feel at times I have a fear of sleeping... I can go days with no sleep. It's like I don't even think of sleep and the only time I sleep is when I'm exhausted and can't go anymore. Is it bipolar or more a fear of sleep because I have a fear of dying?

The cause for your fear of sleep could be many things. I suppose you will have to be introspective a bit and see if you can pinpoint it so that you can be affective in treating it. I have gone through some sleep fears, in the past, when I was very sick and worried that if I fell asleep, I would not wake up. I went nearly 10-days in the midst of mono on either NO sleep or an hour or two a night. Lack of sleep certainly wasn't helping any part of my health, mental or physical. My doctor ended up finally giving me something for my sleep. I didn't have a good experience with it, but, fortunately, one good night of sleep was all it took to begin to reset me a little. I'm sure you must be pretty worn down. I sincerely hope that you can get to the bottom of this soon and return to your sweet dreams. Good luck to you! :)

Thanks and yes my doctor prescribed me trazodone for sleep but a major interaction could happen with my lexapro so now I'm scared of that. It's never ending.

Typical with a bipolar diagnosis, a lack of needing to sleep indicates you are in a manic phase.  If you felt manic or had the need to be up and around and doing something and didn't need sleep, I'd say talk with your doc.

Sounds to me like it could be anxiety related.  I went through a brief period of this - I, too, was afraid that I wouldn't wake up.

I Get scared of sleeping too... It's complicated. I fear being alone at night, which is where I'm always stuck with silence, and silence drives me nuts sometimes. It's like a cycle.. Lol
