Anyone wanna quit smoking for me? So hard
« on: January 15, 2012, 04:28:37 PM »
So I'm a 25-30 smokes a day person. More when drinking. Yesterday I cut down to 8 to slowly taper off but I found myself watching the clock all day, counting down till I could have one and then feeling terrible when I did. So today I woke up, felt like I was gonna have a panic attack during my first smoke and then figured, just stuff it that will be my last one. No point putting off the horrible withdrawrals that are gonna hit me eventually I may as well start now.

It is 20 minutes!!!!!!! Later and I'm already thinking I should have another, especially since I didn't enjoy the last one. All that's going on in my head is "I need to smoke, I'm too weak to quit, I enjoy a smoke, I have to have one now" it's overpowering and it hasn't even been a half hr. There is no way I can do it.

Hubby is great support but he is at work so I'm home all day with the kids and I would usually just do house work and smoke. I can't go visit my parents like I usually would coz they both smoke and I am way too weak to be around it this soon into it.

Does someone wanna do it with me? Or better yet, for me?

I wish wish wish wish I had never started.

Hi Teresa!

You sound just like me. I was smoking the same amount, and i've been a smoker for around 20 years. I gave up 5 days ago, but i could not do it cold turkey, i just dont have the willpower for that.

I am using an E-cig, and even though i still get a craving here and there, it is working wonders! Hubby has been off cigs now for nearly 9 months, with the help of an e-cig, and he refuses to give his up, because he enjoys 'vaping' more than he enjoyed the cigs! If you really feel like you can't do it cold turkey, then i would really recommend you look into getting one of these. Make sure you get a good one. Mine cost nearly £50 but i got when they were on offer for around £30ish.

If you need any moral support, pm me anytime!

That's great Jane

I also used to smoke between 25-30 per day. I am now down to an average of 12-15 with the help of an e-cig in between.
I could cut down further quite easily, but got some bad news yesterday, so for a few days I am going to stay between 12 and 15 per day.

I can also feel the difference. I don't feel as tired or out of breath as before.
I also found an app for my phone which you click on when you have a smoke, and you can set intervals for how long you want to go without a smoke, and it tracks your progress. This app has helped a lot too.

Good luck Teresa and Jane :-)

You all are doing wonderful!  I have now been smoke free for 1 year and 5 months.  I did quit cold turkey, because for me, the timing of when I could have another cig drove me nuts, so I just made up my mind that I was done...no more timing for the next one, no more cutting back, just plain ole be done and I haven't looked back since!  It's amazing how much better food tastes now and how much better you simply smell.  The greatest thing is all the money saved!  Each month I take what I would have spent on cigs and get myself something.  Of course there are occassional cravings, but I just remind myself that I'm a non smoker and having foolish thoughts of wanting a cig.

Another thing that helped the most was reading the book called "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr.  Fabulous book!!!!  In my opinion, everyone that is trying to quit should read that book...I think it does somthing with the subconcious, because once I read it, I knew I was done.

Good luck to all of you!  I smoked for 30 years, an average of 2 packs a day, so i KNOW you all can do it!!!!

I know of others who have read it too and they've told me when they are struggling with having quit, they read it again and it really reinforces their quitting.

You all are doing great and I hope to hear of your success each day!!!!  Keep it up!!!!

Way to go everyone. I've been a smoker for 5 years and have quit smoking for two months now through going cold turkey. We're all entitled to a healthy life. Keep on pushing through every hour and don't let those cravings overcome you!
