Scared of being possessed by some sort of satanism :(

I'm a Christian and I try my best to dedicate my life to God.

Last night I got this weird fear of spirits or paranormal things. I looked stuff up on the internet about it and I found stories about exorcism and stuff. I thought that stuff was just make-believe. I keep looking stuff up about it but I just find different answers and opinions.

If you become possessed is it like in the movies or is it just temptation to do bad things? Can you become possessed if you're a Christian?

I'm a Christian too, but I don't believe in possessions.  We all have a temptation in us to do bad things, whether it be lying to someone or stealing.  We all are sinners, but we can ask for forgiveness.  We can do our best to not sin, but we everyone of us sins everyday, sometimes unaware of it. 

I think that where there are stories in the Bible about possessions, it is actually mental illness not discovered yet. 

Keep dedicating your life to God and know that this can not happen to you :)

This used to be one of my biggest fears but when I was fearful of this I asked my psychologist and she explained that people were not really possessed in the bible they were mentally ill.  They didn't know how to explain mental illness and so they explained it using the only thing they understood at the time and that was demons.  Of course there are still people who believe in demons among the fundamentalists but in the medical community most people do not believe in them.  In fact most priests nowadays do not believe in them.  If you choose to believe in demons it is important for you to know the following.  A demon can not possess you with out your permission because you always have your freewill to choose.  So look at it this way if one was to ask you to possess you you would simply say no.  also do not mess around with ouiji boards and the occult and you will be fine.  Having said all that I would say that it is intelligent to believe that they don't exist.

this is JUST the kind of post i was looking for.
I'm also christian and have the EXACT same fear..it used to be so bad that i was 100% that it was going to happen to me if i think about it. That freaked me out even more. It came back to me again so i went searching for websites that will have related stories.I've watched all the horror movies a while back that have anything to do with demons,devils,ect...so i guess that didn't help.Anyways,i KNOW it's irrational and all but that fear still lingers! even though seeing that there are people makes me feel a little better.Thanks for posting this! & i'm sorry you feel this way because i know how horrible it is,but know you're not alone,there are so many people with the same fear and nothing has ever happend to them because that doesn't exist :) just keep on telling yourself that,because that way i kind of feel better myself.My pshycologist also told me that there is NO MEDICAL proof ANYWHERE that this has EVER happend to anyone.She was also reasuring me that it is a mental illness and is connected to shizofrenia and other things,it doesn't exist :)
