HELP please...fear i am losing it
« on: January 02, 2012, 09:37:45 PM »
I posted a few days ago about experiencing a sharp pain in my left lung when breathing and with certain movement of my upper body.
It comes and goes but it with me the majority of the day.
OMG I am sure I have either lung cancer, or esophagus cancer or who knows what else.
I have bad GERD and take Prilosec, and worry my GERD has developed into some kind of cancer.
In terms of my lungs, I am not short of breath, I do not feel more tired than normal, or otherwise lethargic, but boy this pain is getting the better of me.....
Logic tells me to go see my doctor (I only go maybe 1X per year, only when really necessary), but I am so afraid.  I am so afraid that she will order a chest x-ray... and something will be found.  I am afraid to take meds.  Right now I am a mess. And that is really getting me down, on top of my physical symptoms.  I hate myself when I "allow" my HA to get the better of me.  In fact as I typed this and re-read it, I am almost embarassed to admit I am once again in this place.
Please any supportive words or logical advice would be so helpful right now.
thank you in advance  ;*)

Hi Miss Freaky,

I know you are very concerned right now, but I recommend that you to do your best not to allow your mind to accept a conclusion when you haven't done any investigation and no doctor has taken a look at look you.  Maybe you could tell yourself, "Yes, I am feeling an odd sensation and I am concerned, but I will not allow my concern to go higher than is warranted.  And the only thing that will warrant my concern level to go from mild concern to higher concern is an actual diagnosis.  So I must stay cool for now."

I'm not an expert, but I believe that several things that are not serious can cause similar types of sensations that you are feeling.  I get chest tightness from anxiety from time to time for example.  Also, I have experienced twinges of pain from breathing because of my rib cage and spine alignment... which always goes away eventually.

I think that you should stay optimistic and visit the doctor, I think that you will feel better after the doctor.

Feel better soon,

-Ravens Lady
