How many people gained weight on Med's
« on: April 02, 2006, 08:50:25 PM »
I was put on Zoloft and Xanax two years ago. I went off it because of the weight gain. I was put back on it do to Panic attacks three months ago. I've ballooned up from my normal, relatively health weight of 240 (I'm also 6' 5" and I former athlete) to my now bloated 300. I've developed Hyper tention and feel like crap but I'm scared to exercise do to my Anxiety revolvering around Heart Attacks and Strokes. Does anyone have any inside on this. My doctor is moving me to Effexor and BuSpar. Will I gain more weight?

I gained 55lbs in two years from Paxcil. I stopped taking it in October and have since lost 13lbs :)

It also gave me adult acne..

I've been gaining weight on Risperdal, only I was always underweight because of my anxiety and now I'm a healthier 117 lbs (as opposed to 92lbs, I'm 5'2").  I could keep gaining and I do worry I may crawl to an unhealthy fat for the first time ever!!! :-\

The only thing I can say is do small easy exercises like slow walking or an easy short bike ride...exercise does ease anxiety especially if done outdoors (as long as your not near an industrial plant or something).  Last week I went and got a recumbent stationary bike ( the kind with a back on the seat and you can sit back on)  I have it set on the lowest and I ride slow, this gets my body moving, my blood circulating and I'm not exerting myself at all.
I also ride it when I'm anxious...real fast...this way I exhaust faster, burn a little energy and this helps bring my anxiety down sooner, sometimes...

Remember...excersise does not mean you have to sweat and lose your breath, you don't have to join a gym...just get mobile. :)

Thanks, I used to go to the gym every other day, but mostly to pump iron. I tore up my shoulder a few months back right before my last Big Panic attacks. I'm planning on going back and switching over to aerobic when I get Doctors approval. I'm also thinking of changing my diet over from Meats and dairy to Fish, whole grains and Vegatables ( kinda like the Omega Diet.). I'll let you know how it's going.

From what I understand a friend of my husband lost major wieght on a protein diet (frequent small portions of meat).  His dad is on a diet too but the big thing for him is to cut down on breads.
