HEART ADVICE?? Please respond!!!
« on: December 25, 2011, 11:34:56 AM »
Ok so here goes...about 4 months ago I had an EKGby my Doctors assistant and I was very NERVOUS and was moving alot and she said there we some artifact's on it what ever that is and told me to start doing healtier habits and because of my past with bulimia I may have caused my heart to work harder. I am 33 and probably drink too much and smoke ( which I am working VERY HARD to quit both). So then I went back to talk with my Doctor about it and he said everything was fine.

So my question is if he thought something was wrong do you think he would have ordered more tests???

Typically, if your doctor thought there was an issue, they would order more tests.
I won't mention the drinking and smoking as I know you have heard it many times
before. I will mention that a former co-worker of mine is in hospice for lung cancer as
he was a heavy smoker for many years (he is 59).

Artifact = wave forms on the EKG that are not due to heart rhythm (muscle movement, misplacement of the leads, whatever). Unless the assistant did not know what they are talking about and when they said "artifacts" they meant something different than the actual definition of "artifact." Having artifact on an EKG means absolutely nothing (except maybe that the person doing the EKG didn't place the electrodes quite right).
