anxiety, panic and birth control...
« on: April 02, 2006, 01:27:42 PM »
other than 2 years ago when i had my first panic attack (and a few more for a few months), i had been panic attack free for a year and a half. my doctor had me on depoprovera for birth control for the past 5 years. in december, he switched me to the pill because apparently depo can lead to weak bones. by january, i was ladden with panic attacks, 3-4 a week! i still am feeling this. i asked him if it had anything to do with the pill, and he said no. i stopped taking the pill 2 weeks ago, and i AM noticing the symptoms are fewer, but i still feel ICK.i guess time will tell, right?

anyone else feel their birth control may play a factor?

I do soo!!!!!
Any change in your hormones can affect your anxiety...So its not necessarily the medication that did it but rather the change it makes to your hormones.

Example:
I was on Effexor for 2 1/2 years and I was doing great!!! then I had a hysterectomy...
After that the Effexor made me soo tired I couldn't function properly, it no longer worked like it had.  I got off them and had issues with my anxiety again and had to find a new med AGAAIINNN...finding something takes soo long, then to have to start the hunt all over again really sucks

I agree!

I get my worst bouts of panic and depression in the ten days before/during/after my cycle. I am convinced mine is mostly because of my hormones. I have even begged for a hysterectomy a few times now.. and I am only 26 years old!

My mother has Panic. She has had hers for years now. Two years ago she got a hysterectomy and quit all of her meds. She is since fine and only gets panic a little in the morning on days she has to drive to work. Even though it's years away.. I hope for the same thing someday..
