Hi Tanja

Magnesium can help with anxiety and it also helps with heart health. However, one should discuss taking supplements with a doctor as too much Magnesium can deplete your calcium levels leading to brittle bones etc, and too much calcium and deplete magnesium levels leading to heart problems.

Your doctor or pharmacist might recommend you take a balanced, Calcium-Magnesium supplement with some added Vitamin D which helps with calcium absorption.

A blood test could ascertain your vitamin levels and see where you are lacking. Or talk to your pharmacist and see what they recommend.

I have been using magnesium for years they have many benefits.
They claim it can help with anxiety, depression, stress.
But that all depends on what type of magnesium you use.
Magnesium defficiency can cause a lot of problems, including stress and depression.
Go to a doctor who specializes in mineral en vitamins and get yourself tested
For me it does nothing for either stress or anxiety,i just use it cause my body needs it

i tried one called natural calm, it is a magnesium supplement seemed to help but it made me feel a little different so i stopped using it because anything that makes me feel weird or different causes anxiety but try it it is not even noticeable to most people just me lol.

Magnesium relaxes your muscles, and that is where the calming effect comes from. It's often used in high doses to prevent premature labor.

It's difficult to overdose, as you would get diarrhea right away (it's a laxative of sorts), which would most likely stop you from taking as much again. It's important to find a good product. Not all magnesium salts are created equal. For your body to absorb the mag, it needs to dissociate in your gut, to become pure, elemental magnesium. Magnesium glycinate, for instance, does a great job, whereas magnesium oxide is the least bioavailable for your body.

During stress, your body loses magnesium, so repletion beyond what's in your diet may be a good idea. I take mag every day at bedtime. I'd like to think I sleep a bit better.

Good luck!

I've used, and still use Natural Calm magnesium sometimes before bed. I can't say with certainty that it is doing the job because I often take it in conjunction with Xanax if I'm feeling heightened anxiety. If you use it, use hot water. I've had no adverse effects from it and it has a pleasant taste.

I've taken magnesium and it hasn't done a thing for me.  You have to make sure you take the appropriate magnesium, along with calcium binder.  I've tried Natural Calm, too - for quite a long time and all it did was keep me regular.
