Abilify for Anxiety
TonyL1:
K, it's been a nasty few months, the CBT failed ( was in it since May 18th, as a group for 12 weeks, then
due to my extreme GAD/anxiety & Agoraphobia I went 1 on 1 with a Psychologist for further CBT for 6 weeks
which didn't improve me. now my Psych wants to try me on Abilify, I do not and never have tolerated SSRI's
in the past (I'm 44 now) and tried many SSRI's. but this Abilify looks scary, ( being a med phobic doesn't help either)
It seems to be a trend lately to use many drugs now for off label use, (why not, they can only sell more, and make even more money off them lol) So back to this Abilify, what's anyone's experience for it, for GAD/Panic and Agoraphobia....
TonyL1:
hi all, and first off Merry Christmas, :action-smiley-065: I will be starting the drug on Jan 10th
(my next Appointment with Psychiatrist) Had a week now to digest the info regarding this drug
call Abilify ( I hope it doesn't Dis-abilify me LMAO) but I will try it with a positive attitude, however
I'm finding other users (in my research) who seem to suffer fatigue taking this drug, I already have
fatigue. I hope it doesn't make it worse? not sure if other drugs would work in conjunction with it...
I'm just on Xanax now 0.5mg 4 times a day....
Tony!!!!
Socratores:
Abilify is more of an anti-psychotic.
Many who are on ssri's but don't feel it that effective
get Abilify described as an add-on and have good results.
I used abilify but got so sick the first days i quit.
My doctor therefore won't prescribe them to me anymore.
TonyL1:
so I should start another drug like a SSRI? then use Abilify as a add-on? the
way the psych explained it to me, on the 13th, was it would be a stand alone
drug... I'll ask when I go back on January 10th....
mrmanic:
Hi Tony, I can't say I have been on abilify or other anti-psycs but I do wonder why your prescribing Dr. would try this on you seeings as you haven't responded so well to ssri treatment for anxiety. Are you mainly anxious and not depressed/manic? Abilify (*in my opinion, we're all different*) would make sense if you were diagnosed bipolar or severely depressed. Have you or your prescribing Dr. thought of using a longer acting benzo such as klonopin instead of xanax? I made the switch from 1 mg xanax split throughout the day to .25 mg klonopin and couldn't be happier. The .25 of klonopin carries me all day long as opposed to having to keep popping xanax every 4 hours. Maybe give that a think. Best wishes.
