Guys,
I am always sending everyone to a web site to get books on meditation, so I figured I would compile a post that has all the info you need in it so that I do not have to continually give out the URL. I have chosen some of the books that I have read and will give direct links to them so that there is no need to search for the files. The files are in .pdf form and are meant for public use, so feel free to save them off to your hard disk, print them, or just read them on-line. I hope you guys get something out of these book like I have.
This is a great first read which briefly describes the practice of meditation. It is very simple and where I got the bulk of knowledge of my personal practice. Very instructional and gives a detailed view of how meditation should be practiced.
The Fundamentals of Meditation Practice
http://www.buddhanet.net/pdf_file/chanmed1.pdfThis was an interesting read on the cure for spiritual disease which I thought applied nicely to anxiety disorders.
The Natural Cure for Spiritual Disease
http://www.buddhanet.net/pdf_file/nat_cure.pdfHow to apply mindfulness meditation in a western society where you are being pulled in all different directions. This is a great book on how to attach mindfulness to everything you do in life and keep yourself focused on the present.
Living Meditation, Living Insight
http://www.buddhanet.net/pdf_file/livngmed.pdfA good book on sitting and walking meditation. Very helpful if you need to get yourself back into focus while at work or anywhere else where you don't have a place to sit quietly.
The Art of Attention
http://www.buddhanet.net/pdf_file/artofatt.pdfI also found many of the other free books on this site to be incredibly helpful, but I don't want to provide hundreds of links. These were the most influential for me and a couple I haven't read in years. The first one I have read multiple times and still look at it every now and then so that I can keep myself focused when meditating.
I hope you all get as much out of these as I did. If you are interested in checking out the site then go to:
www.buddhanet.netThere is a ton more info, but a lot of it gets more into Buddhism than I'd like to post here. In general the books that I have posted can be used by anyone and should not interfere with anyones religious beliefs.
Take care and happy reading
