ive felt like that before, i dont know what type of anxiety i have all i know is that the doctors ran test and they said im fine that it must be anxiety with occasional panic attacks. when i have the attacks i feel like im having a stroke or heart attack, and when i have what i call anxiety waves i think ok im about to freak out ok im about to die ok im about to have a heart attack. i mean i would constantly be calling my father who has had heart failure and asking him what it feels like and make sure i wasn't really having an attack. so i think your fine just try and do what you can to calm yourself down and get your mind off of it i know its hard but do what ever it takes to get your mind off of it.

ps. thanks for the response on my post it helps to know that some one else out there deals with anxiety and doesnt always have trouble sleeping or whatnot. i just worry to much cuz i notice sometimes my legs shake. like not my whole body but just my legs start shaking and after i fall asleep which now is almost impossable not to do i wake up tired and drained and feel that way all day and then get spells where it feels like im sick in my gut and about to fall or collapse. but i hope your feeling better soon.

I just finished a bout myself  Tremers, electric shoke in my brain, fealing like I'm stuck between reality and some other place, twitches and crying.  Wanting to get thru it all on my own then giving up and taking a clonazepam.  I'm ok right now but exhausted.

You are not alone  thats the key  knowing you guys totally get what I'm goin thru

keep up the good fight

I thought this 'going to faint' feeling was very unusual for panic attacks; it's reassuring that other people felt the same.

I felt very dizzy during the last couple of episodes and did collapse every time but didn't lose conciousness. I was just paralysed. In hospital the medics thought I was unconscious, couldn't they tell? Anyway, I tried to snap out of it and eventually managed--only for the panic response to take over at once: I sat up in the stretcher screaming and 4 people had to hold me down. Yikes.

I miss the days when it was just shaking, heart pounding and hyper-ventilating!

Luckily these attacks are rare. At the first sign of dizzyness I pop a Xanax. Haven't had to do that for a while. The doc says that carrying the pills in my pocket can be as effective as actually taking them--he's right; the reassurance of having them can keep PAs at bay.

I used to get the " Oh My God! I am going to faint." Feelings too! It mostly stopped after my psychotherapist told me it is almost not possible to faint while having a panic attack because your heart rate is up. Now I just get really dizzy and blurred vision. I too carry the Lorazapam in my purse EVERYWHERE I go. It does help! The hardest part now with the anxiety crap, is the Agoraphobia part of it. I miss being able to go shopping and have outdoor lunches with friends.. I start to tense up, like I can't walk.. then I just return to the car.. Maybe someday we will ALL be free of this Anxiety? ;*)

Take care.

I take my clonazepam right before I go out somewhere if I'm worried that I'll have an attack.  this allows me to get out and I'm covered and don't have to wait for it to kick in if I do have an attack.

I've been there, too. I thought I was through with the Heart Attack and Stroke thought processes. My doctor has been detoxing me from Zoloft and Xanax and moving me into Effexor and BuSpar. I did pretty good for the first few days but then the Stoke thoughts came back. It's hard when you can't shake the dark feelings. One some level, you know that your not going to have a stroke or pass out but transferring that to your conscious thought process is darn near impossible. I think all of us here have dealt with this with our individual symptoms. What's help me out tremendously is logging on and "talking" here with all of you. It's like a 24-7 support group. Also talking to anyone else about your symptoms and condition. If I'm getting those physical symptoms and I tell a Friend, I find myself using them to sound out my symptions and realizing my problems for what they are, symptoms not physical symptoms. See, talking to all of you have made me feel better already!! If you let me be your crazy freind, I'll let you be mine

Hi All,
Boy do I understand what everyone has been commenting on. My first anxiety attack happened while I was siitting at a traffic light during rush hour. I too thought I was going to faint as I felt I couldn't get enough air. All my muscles felt limp and my heart was pounding, I'll never forget that helpless feeling.
Anyway, this anxiety is such a cruel thing. Saturday, just after breakfast; I was just sitting watching some TV when I started getting this horrible pain in my upper chest and then a sharp pain in the middle of my back. With the pain in my back I could feel my heart beating and it was awful. My poor husband wanted to take me to the hospital but I told him no, I just needed to take a pill and so I went to the cupboard and took my clonazapam, my blood pressure med, and and aspirin to make the hubby feel better. The pain lasted for almost an hour and it was pretty scary. I sure wish we could all be rid of this disorder but I've tried just about everything. I wanted so much to get into talk therapy but you all know what happened with that, my therapist cancelled my appt. after I had waited 6 weeks to see her. I guess I should find someone else but it is difficult as I can't drive anymore due to this damned anxiety. Any suggestions? Hang in there everyone. But I know that having this is wearing me down. I can't imagine living 20 more years or so like this, I am 53 and have had this for 10 yrs already.

A good therapist is hard to find, I feel for you Val! I never wanted to believe that I needed to lean on ANYONE to help, but here I am. I spent several years quietly suffering from Anxiety. I lost to many good times to this condition. The last time that I ended up in the emergency room it was time to get serious. I feel that my therapist is my best weapon against anxiety but I know people that have had a hard time finding the right person. Keep on looking. I double checked with my doctor before I went looking. She was able to hook me up with the right person. Also, I'd check with your local Hospital about transportation. I live in a small city in a rural part of Northern Michigan and our local Hospital provides patent transport to ALL types of therapy, free of charge.

Hey, everyone when I was 14 I was lightheaded for a whole year straight.  Anyway my muscles were always twitching ect.. They did not know this stuff back then like they know now.  Anyway about 6 years ago I was dizzy where ever I went I was afraid to be alone, I could hardly go outside.  Where ever I went, I slept.  Terrible ,this was before I was diagnosed.  Hope that helps anyone.

I agree with NorthernRC on this one...

a good therapist is hard to find, but once you get the right match, it is well worth the searching.  I find my therapist the best defense I have against anxiety and would recommend trying talk therapy to anyone who suffers from GAD...

Take care!

Valerie,

I don't like that mention of chest pain. Have you had a cardiac check? This anxiety thing should not mislead us into thinking it's nothing when there could be a physiological problem--always better to be safe than sorry!
