Fibromyalgia!
« on: November 18, 2011, 10:56:22 AM »
i am not even kidding when i say this, i'm actually relieved to read this, but i think my source of problems comes from Fibromyalgia. Read the following excerpts:

Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain processes pain signals.

Symptoms sometimes begin after a physical trauma, surgery, infection or significant psychological stress. In other cases, symptoms gradually accumulate over time with no single triggering event.

Women are much more likely to develop fibromyalgia than are men. Many people who have fibromyalgia also have tension headaches, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety and depression.

While there is no cure for fibromyalgia, a variety of medications can help control symptoms. Exercise, relaxation and stress-reduction measures also may help.

The pain associated with fibromyalgia often is described as a constant dull ache, typically arising from muscles. To be considered widespread, the pain must occur on both sides of your body and above and below your waist.

Fibromyalgia is characterized by additional pain when firm pressure is applied to specific areas of your body, called tender points. Tender point locations include:

Back of the head
Between shoulder blades
Top of shoulders
Front sides of neck
Upper chest
Outer elbows
Upper hips
Sides of hips
Inner knees
Fatigue and sleep disturbances
People with fibromyalgia often awaken tired, even though they report sleeping for long periods of time. Sleep is frequently disrupted by pain, and many patients with fibromyalgia have other sleep disorders, such as restless legs syndrome and sleep apnea, that further worsen symptoms.

Coexisting conditions
Many people who have fibromyalgia also may have:

Fatigue
Anxiety
Depression
Endometriosis
Headaches
Irritable bowel syndrome

A female only issue?
I did hear that it is known to be most troublesome in a morning, growing easier throughout the day.
Doesn't sound very scary, but would be horribly inconvenient and painful.
I have *some* of the symptoms, but then I reckon most people with HA could claim to. A tricky one i think!

I think that if you suspect you may have fibromayalgia, its something you may want to talk to your doctor about, and possibly a rheumatologist if your primary care physician has reason to suspect you should look into further.

I'm always cautious to suggest figromayalgia to people with Health Anxiety because I think a lot of these symtpoms can over-lap.   Just having excess anxiety that isn't being dealt with correctly can cause many of the same issues that occur with fibromayalgia.  So use caution and skepticism when looking to label yourself and diagnose yourself.

If you notice that you have had much more pronounced issues with some of these symtpoms listed than in the past perhaps you should consider it.  Also, do you have any of the sore/tender spots that bother you from time to time?  Are there any places on your body that sometimes seem to radiate pain when only lightly brushed or lightly touched, and you have no reason to suspect you have a regular bruise?  If so, it might be FM.

Hi. I'm sorry I know I don't know you but I suffer from the same problem. I was reading the board and I just thougt I would ask you that question if you allow me too : have you noticed the headaches only happen when you reach a critical level of fatigue ?

Thanks  :happy0151: take care
