Okay to chew clonazepam?
« on: October 18, 2011, 04:47:15 PM »
Hi,

My question is: is it okay to chew clonazepam tablets rather than swallowing them. The reason I chew is because I think they will work faster. The taste is bearable, even slightly sweet. Am slightly concerned about reduced effectiveness (compared to swallowing). Clonazepam is _not_ available in sub-lingual form. Does anybody else chew?

Thanks!

found a bit on this question on a clonazepam site.

apparently there are two types---one that should be swallowed whole and the other that disintegrates on the tongue......

Quote
•May be administered without regard to meals. Administer with food if GI upset occurs.
 Tablets
•Administer prescribed dose with water. Have patient swallow whole. Do not crush, chew, divide, or break tablet.

 Tablets, orally disintegrating

•Do not open pouch until immediately before dose is to be administered.
•Open pouch and peel back foil on blister. Do not push tablet through foil. Immediately upon opening the blister, using dry hands, remove the tablet and place in mouth. Tablet disintegrates rapidly in saliva and may be swallowed with or without water.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.
