lump growing on tailbone :(
« on: October 05, 2011, 01:37:12 PM »
Had it for some time now but it didn't bother me until now. A few days ago I cell pretty hard skateboarding and hurt my tailbone and hip. And now, I can't sit or lay down comfortably without bring in pain and the lump is growing.  Probably 2inches in diameter now.

I read up on Pilonidal Cyst and it seems to be it.

I'm so scared help me out guys :(

Its not colored like a bruise or anything.  I didn't fall where it is.  Its like a moveable lump under the skin

I had one of these cysts when I had my son two years ago. Can be very painful but is easy to treat. I had surgery on mine but I don't think everyone has to.

A friend of mine had a pilonidal cyst once - sounds painful and awful. (But not dangerous.)

Yes, you should get it looked at by a doc... my friend had to have his surgically removed.  But don't freak yourself out about it - it's apparently frustrating and uncomfortable, but not life-threatening.

I had a pilonital cyst and had it removed. They are really very common. Two of my kids have it as well. If it is shallow they will probably leave it alone. If its deeper they may want to do surgery. Have a doc look at it though. When they flare up they can be very painful!

I have one as well. It's strange that yours came on after a fall though; as far as I know, they don't usually come on as a result of an injury. Mine just showed up all of a sudden, about 12 years ago. Since then I've gone through periods where it hasn't bothered me for years, but then others where it flares up about once a week. Everyone else posting is right; they're not life threatening but just annoying.

None of us know what it is. Even so you read up on it and others have commented we do not know what it is. The fact is that you post on the Hypochondria board and you googled aka read up on it.

That is telling me that you deep down know that this lump or bump is probably pretty harmless and you need some help with your anxiety.

So if this bump is really been bordering you and you haven't seen a doctor about it yet option number 1 is to go to a doctor and let him/her see it.

Option Number 2 is you go with your guts and dismiss it and learn to live with your anxiety. ( I am saying this boldly because you mention this symptom on the Hypochondria board most likely realizing that it is nothing to worry about)

Sorry you hurt yourself skateboarding. It must have been one pretty bad fall.

Hopefully soon the pain will seize and you hop back on your skateboard while enjoying life.
