Chrohns Disease... or is it ... Colon Cancer.. ?
« on: September 17, 2011, 07:18:32 PM »
So I got a CT scan reading about 2 years ago that showed "Thickening of the Cecum" I regularly get diarhea and stomach pain.  I am only 22 and my doctor was unconcerned "At 20" he said there is little chance it is colon cancer.. can I trust him? The CT scan said "Possible Chrons Disease and/or Ulcerative Colitis".  I also got a small bowel series with contrast that showed nothing.

I got 2 CT scans that showed everything to be normal sized about a month ago, my doctor refuses to give me a colonoscopy because he says I am way too young and wants to wait until I am "At Least" 25.  I keep worrying it is Colon Cancer, I don't really care if it is Chrohns but just want to make sure this reading isn't indicative of something worse.

Is it possible that it is CC?

You see the problem is it isn't very likely to be CC due to your age so most docs try not to colonoscopy.  Doesn't mean it is impossible just not likely.  It could be a number of things some not serious some are.  Docs tend to not take young patients serious.  You could insist on the colonoscopy due to the fact he can't seem to diagnosed you .  He can suggest a lot of things doesn't mean anything if he doesn't take a look.  Or you could see a different doc but remember this could also feed into anxiety.  It is a tough decision to make.  As far as colon cancer highly unlikely.

Thanks alpha, also I have been suffering with these digestive symptoms for well over 3 years. Surely if it was CC i'd be stone dead by now.

Is there such a thing as mild chrohns? Because ive only had one really terrible stomach pain attack.

My sister has chrohns and if she's having a flare up then it's really bad but if it isn't acting up then it's just a general discomfort.  So I guess you could say when it's not a flare up it's kind of a mild chrohns.
