Thought I was okay, but worrying again. Weird eye stuff....
« on: September 17, 2011, 06:27:19 PM »
I am at my wits end and don't know what to do. I feel like I try everything to live well and be well, but bad things just keep happening to me.

I've been dizzy with blurred vision for months. I don't know what to do. See a neurologist? I have no idea. I'm lost.

Recently, I woke up to find my right eye was very puffy and red. Itchy as well. Peeling skin. Swollen all the way around. I went to the doc and he said likely and eyelid infection. To apply warm compresses and everything should be fine. WRONG.

I resulted to using a bit of hydrocortisone cream to get rid of the itch and swelling because nothing was helping. I got rid of the itch and the redness. But there is still puffiness. My eye feels sore. It feels sore to move my eye, but I'm not sure if I'm just imagining. And now I'm noticing that my eye is more open than the other. There is more lid showing on my normal eye. I don't understand what is going on.

Nerve damage? Optic neuritis?

I don't know what to do. What do I do?? So lost.

sounds like the remnants of the eyelid infection.  My youngest had two or three bouts of her eye puffing up and itchy/dry/flaking skin.  It was just she rubbed it raw.  it was first dx'd as pink eye....

you are not experiencing optic neuritis based on what you are describing.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

I totally had that eyelid infection when I was 18. Same symptoms... I just used a bit of cortisone cream and it went away.

Littledee - you said you went to an ophthalmologist, right?  I assume they dilated your eyes or did that retinal scan?  If so, they would've seen evidence of optic neuritis if you had it.  (I was tested for optic neuritis several years ago - negative.)

Now, for the dizziness and blurred vision (which I doubt has anything to do with the eyelid thing). That could be caused by any number of things - anxiety, dehydration, hormonal issues (a lot of pre-menopausal women get it), medication side effects, metabolic syndromes and yes, a few scary things.

Have you talked to your GP about it?  That's the best place to start, since they'll need to ask you a bunch of questions to home in on where the dizziness & blurred vision are coming from.

Good luck, but don't worry - I've had dizziness and even blurred vision from time to time, and it usually winds up being a combination of stress, dehydration and (for me) sugar & hormone issues.

I guess the eye droopiness has me worried about muscle weakness or nerve damage or something. But it's mostly right under the brow bone. Like my eyelid is more wrinkled than usual. I was obsessed about myasthenia gravis awhile back, and now I'm starting to worry about it again because of the eye....

You're right though, I guess I should talk to my GP about it. I'm just scared of what he will say...
