has anyone had addictions to meds? (clonazepam, ativan)

I am wondering what happens if you do get addicted. I realize if you were to run out it wouldn't be good but is that the only fear? I don't understand. Nothing could be worse than coming off paxil but the doc. seems to think that drug is o.k. Clonazepam worked good for me, he told me Ativan is more addictive, but when I told him Ativan doesn't really do anything for me unless I take about 4 of the .5mg another doc. gave me his response was " your scaring me". Of what I wonder now? Does that mean I'm really bad? I guess I'll have to ask him when  I can bring myself to go see him again. I feel like some kind of recreational drug addict trying to get a fix when asking for clanazepam. I don't feel high on this drug just more normal. I would love anyones opinion or experience with this.

I too wanted the clonazepam, my psycologist wouldn't give it to me, first it was try this then try that then try this...I'm not addicted to clonazepam, it just works without any side effects.
I fired my psycyatrist because he changed my meds too many times and left me alone to deal with the consequences by myself...good god!!!

My family doctor gave me the clonazepam...he knows I hate drugs, and I want them because they work, not because I'm addicted.

Goog grief, I know that feeling of being regarded as a drug addict!  suffered panic attacks travelling in SE Asia recently and tried to buy some Xanax over the counter. You can get almost everything there, but tranquilizers are a big no-no. The looks the pharmacists gave me!

The return of panic disorder was a nasty surprise. I wasn't prepared for it, it had been years since the last crisis.. But these things never go away entirely.

Ended up in hospitals both in Bangkok and Amman (on the flight home) and all because it was not possible to get my hands on some Xanax to stop the panic. Crazy or what??

Thankfully, my GP here has no problem prescribing it. Most patients are sensible individuals who are careful with their meds. But I remember when it was really bad (a few years ago now) my anxiety was so bad that popping Valium in quick succession did next to nothing for me. It all depends on your state of mind. Of course tranquilisers are addictive, so it's important to work closely with your doctor (and I know, it can be difficult/impossible to find a doctor who's prepared to do that).

Paxil can be a problem for some people--it was for me. I'm now on a tiny dose of Amiltryptiline (20-30mg at night) and we'll see if it can control the anxiety--I've got that Xanax in my handbag, just in case!
