An atheist's benediction
« on: September 07, 2011, 01:56:11 PM »
I offer up a public benediction of hope for a rational future.

I wish for my peers to live their own purpose to contribute to our social evolution.

I hope for my community to allow me to share my opinions without censorship.

I aspire to gain the respect of my colleagues for my accomplishments, knowledge, and insight.

I want to experience a society where superstitious hurdles do not hinder our human intellect and our opportunities improve life.

I hunger for a world where we take pride in what we can discover, and not in restricting ourselves to tradition and lore.

I petition mankind to build their morals and ethics around the needs and benefits of the world we know is real rather than upon myths and stories of non evident societies.

I long for the day when those with mental and physical disorders, diseases, and handicaps are not encouraged to dangerously pursue faith-healing in lieu of medical evaluation and treatment.

I offer my atheist's prayer publicly to my acquaintances and friends because I know that they exist and that they have the power to make choices and hold influence over others.

These are lovely, February. I sign up to all of them in a second. However, my guess is we will be sorely disappointed. The anxieties, fears, I felt all my life at changing, being true to myself, speaking up, at coming forward, are likely to prevail. Still, the overall experience, while an eye opener, has enabled me to be improved.

I admire you and some others who are likewise daring, courageous, tenacious.
