Okay, okay - I am OLD.  Will be 52 in March.  When I was younger I used to believe that by the time I was this age (which I thought was REALLY old) I would be peaceful and calm.  Kinda like Yoda.  Sure don't feel like him.  Oh, well.  At least i'm above ground, right?

I'm 44 and have been having serious anxiety and panic attacks since last August or September.  Prior to that, I had mild anxiety during a couple of stressful times over the years, but not full blown attacks.

My mother was always prone to serious attacks when I was growing up and she was agoraphobic to boot.  Ironically, her BDay is today.  I'll be calling her, but she's the last person I'd be talking to about my anxiety, LOL

42.  I've had issues for 10-12 years.  Original cause unknown.  Lately I've been dealing with one parent in early Alzheimers and one with Pancreatic Cancer.  That hasn't helped me.

Wow, those results surprised me, I thought the majority would be older - following the logic of hormones and peers' illnesses. I'm 28 and have been having HA symptoms/behaviours for about 10 years I guess, pretty much since I gained an adult's conception of death I suppose!

I think for me as well there is a stage where you grandparents or parents might start getting ill... so many people I know have loved ones with cancer at the moment... makes it hard not to think about it!

I'm fifteen and have been dealing with my anxiety disorder for more than five years now. I also had OCD related trouble a few years before the anxiety started, and even though I managed to get it under control without therapy, I still feel twinges of it today.

I'm currently going though CBT and haven't been on any medication apart from beta blockers which i stopped taking shortly after them being prescribed. I'm hoping i can get through this with lots of positive thinking, therapy and much bravery!

Stick with it and do your homework, it takes a lot of willpower but CBT does work..Good luck with your exposures and remember to utilize your breathing and thinking skills. It's worked wonders for me, I'm no longer afraid to go places and panic attacks are non-existent for me now.

I'm 45 years young. While reading these other posts, it's interesting how many folks have had anxiety issues since childhood. I think you inherit the gene as my Mom and her brother have also had anxiety issues. My older sister has her anxiety moments too.

As for me, I can recall periods as a young teenager when I had anxiety that would last a short time. I didn't know what it was back then. Obviously, all those times where I had an anxiety break through were stress related. When I was 25, I had my first full blown -episode- of high anxiety. It lasted for several months. I did not take any meds and it gradually went away. A couple of years later, I had another -episode- that lasted for 2-3 months then went away again w/out meds. Finally, in June of 2009, I started this -episode- of high anxiety. I've taken meds this time and at times almost wish I hadn't.  Luckily, I've been having some good days and even a straight week where I felt back to normal. It's still up/down but I feel I'm coming out of the tunnel.
