Big day tomorrow...
« on: March 22, 2006, 12:32:07 PM »
OK, some of you might have read about my dental phobia and agoraphobia, as well as claustrophobia (great mixture), and I said of how I saw a cavity in one of my back teeth, and was worrying myself sick.  I went to see my doctor, who i'm fine with, about my agoraphobia, and told him of the dentist bit, and he told me that I should see the dentist.  I've always had a fear of going, so it would be the biggest challenge of my life, now that i've got the agoraphobia as well.  Today my mum came home (I still live at home, i'm 20), and said she had spoken to the dentist today.  Just the thought made me feel sick.  She said she had explained my situation to him.  The dentist has a son in the same position!  Whether she is just saying that to get me to go or not, i'm not sure.  But, she says he has said that between 8.20am and 9am, he will be preparing his day, with no-one else in the building, and if I go in, he can see me, and i'll be out in minutes.  No waiting, no procedures done on the day.  Just in and out in 5 minutes.  Simple for other people, but not me.  My mum says i'm under no pressure to go, but this is the best chance I have of going.  There'll be no better way of doing it, so if I can't do this, what can I do?  So i'll be worrying tonight, panicking, not sleeping, and just hoping I can go, and I can do it.  My doctor has given me some diazepam tranquilizers for when i'm in a tight spot.  He game me those 10 months ago, and they're still in date, so I may take one, or half of one, when I wake up, if I actually get to sleep!

Wish me luck tomorrow, I might need it!

I went!

I hardly had any sleep at all the night before, and when I woke up, I was dreading it.  My mum was very supportive and said if I didn't want to go, she would understand.  But at 8.15, I got in the car, and just told my mum to put the foot down!  I just wanted it over with quick.  I walked in, and the dentist said we were a little early, and he still had to get prepared, I had to wait in the waiting room, which i'm not good at.  About 5 minutes later, I went up, while my mum went back to the car.  I got in the chair, which I wasn't looking forward to, and the dentist was brilliant with me, said I needed two fillings, and I could either have them done now, or come back at a later date.  I said lets get it over with.  He was reassuring all the way, telling of how he had similar fears of being trapped underground.  He said it'd take 5 minutes, but really took half an hour, the cheat!  I was sat there waiting for the anaesthic (sp!) to take hold, and was just waiting for an attack to come, but it never did.  I sat there calm as a cucumber as he ragged at my teeth, drilled, picked.  I couldn't believe it!

The BEST possible outcome!
