Well, a friend of mine does the diet and brought me the book to look through. I have discovered that since I am blood type A that I have increased risks for cancer and heart disease! I am now freaking out!!!! Cancer is my #1 biggest fear, and now I know my blood type puts me at an increased risk. Great!!!! The book gives you a specific diet based on your blood type to hopefully reduce the risk, but for someone with HA that in no way helps my anxiety. I will say this though, all blood types have cancer risks, it just depends on the cancer type. I hope someone has some comforting words....... Has anyone read the book?

Yes, I was even on the diet for awhile years ago.  I found it very difficult to follow and eventually decided it was garbage just like most of the fad diets out there.  (did the cabbage soup diet once too  :laugh3:)  The things I was supposed to eat contradicted a lot of what nutritionists said regarding what I should eat.  I don't remember the bit about us As being predisposed to certain cancers, but then at the time I was in one of my blessed minimal anxiety periods so probably read it and reacted to it like a normal person, not someone with HA as I would now.

I think that whole blood type book is silly.  I'm AB- btw.  I probably couldn;t eat anything.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

Never read it, but have had loads of people try to sell me on the idea, especially when I was a vegetarian and (eegads) missing out on all that animal protein that I, as a type O, should eat. Why I think it is totally bunk (and quick genetics review): your blood type is a simple (Mendelian) genetic trait, meaning that it is solely determined by a single genetic locus--one tiny strand of DNA. This strand of DNA is inherited independently from everything else. So, you can have two people who are very closely related (and who would doubtless share many pre-dispositions, etc) like siblings, who have different blood types.
Just 2 cents.

Thanks for your replies, I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. I really hope blood type doesn't increase your risk for disease. I just wish I could stop stressing about things that are out of my control. HA sucks!!!!

you really hope?  you realize that many people have type A, don't follow such a silly diet, and never get cancer or end up dying from something else completely.  That blood type thing is bunk/silly/nothing to give a second thought to.  OR you have someone follow that diet and STILL get cancer/heart disease etc.  as diospyros says, blood type is but a SINGLE genetic trait.  Whether you get cancer is dependent on many things, blood type being unimportant.
