GERD or IBS - questions?

For the past few months, I have had intermittent upper abdominal pain.  Above my belly button and below my rib cage.  I have also had some urgency issues with #2.  I will all of a sudden get abdominal cramps which are relieved only by going to the bathroom.  And (sorry, TMI!), my stool has been very soft.  And instead of my regular once a day, I notice I usually go a couple times a day.

It is not always related to eating, though.  In fact, a lot of times I'll feel this in the morning before I have eaten anything for the day.

Some "heartburn" symptoms, but always like in the back of my throat which also feels like it is behind my neck/upper shoulders.

Is this typical of IBS or GERD?  Thoughts?

This sounds a lot like GERD, my fiance has bouts with it and your symptoms mirror his exactly.  The only thing that worked for him was a couple of weeks on Prilosec every morning before breakfast.

Thanks!  I ended up making a doctor appointment last week and he also said he suspects GERD.  He prescribed Prilosec and wants me to keep a food diary for the next month.  Thanks again!
