Sleeping pills
« on: March 21, 2006, 02:50:21 AM »
I have been on zopiclone for 2 1/2 years.I use to take 15 mg a night but over the last 2 months i have managed to drop to 11.25 mg my aim is to get to 7.5 mg a night. How am i going to do it i know i have a big addiction to them and the only way to get off them is to gradually cut down. Are they making my anxiety and panic worse by being on them or is it something else? How am i going to get off them?I love being on them as i can sleep!!!!!!!!!Any ideas on how to get of this addiction?????
cheers

Sorry babe, I never posted because I have no clue!!!

I get it tho.  My meds now take care of me sleeping and I can get up the next day...when I go off the meds I'll be back here again, "how to sleep? How to do it alone?

Wait!! I just remembered!!! I'm an idiot:

There is one herb called "melatonin" - your body produces it at night to help you get to sleep...I did use these when I had no meds. Unfortunately I cant use them for too long before I need a break cause they don't work for longer than a week for me...then I need a couple days off them.  Maybe they would work good for you...and they dont interfere with meds!!

let me know if you try them.

I think maybe more people are soo scared of sleeping pills they would rather not sleep and deal with that than get hooked on sleeping pills...I do hope someone has gone thru this and can give you some advise...

I've never had a problem with sleeping pills, I always felt they we're too addictive and dangerous. However I've gone though periods (months and years!) that I needed two or three double scotches before going to bed, which is much more addictive and dangeropus! So don't listen to me!!!

Hi there:

Unfortunately, I have turned to alcohol as a substitute -- and I know this is an even worse alternative. :(
I usually just stay up until 7 or so in the am :dazed: because I cannot stop my mind from going...this has got to get better...

Mbaby,

I have been taking Ambien or other sleeping pills for years.  I think that the Zoloft I take for anxiety gives me insomnia.  I also take a clonazpam sometimes in addition to help me sleep.  They say that Ambien is not physically addictive but I am sure it is psychologically addictive.   My personal opinion is that everyone needs sleep and if you cannot sleep without a medication, then that is what you need.  I have gone for long periods of time with out restful sleep and it takes a great toll on your life.  But I do try every now and then to wean myself off thinking that maybe I can sleep on mine own, that maybe my body has changed but to this point it hasn't.

Best of luck,

Cin

Yeah, I've been taking ambien(called stilnox in australia). Pretty much everynight. I like getting good sleep and stress that if i don't have it I can't sleep.
I have to get more from the docs in the next few days. I feel like a addict but he says that are not bad for you.

Have you tried Melatonin yet.  My husband takes them only when needed.  A neighborgirl takes three before bed thime.  It only calms here down a little.  I take them on occasion.  It helps me a lot.  Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about how much you can take.  Please get off alcohol please.  Maybe try to set up a chat time in the chat room suites you and talk about what ever your needing to talk about.
Take care and God bless.
