memory problems?
« on: June 03, 2007, 03:39:50 AM »
this seems to be the only lingering thing from my past anxiety, and i have come to accept that i have a bad long term memory. exept im only 17... i cant imagine how it will be when i get older.. I have ADD, which can be a pretty good reason why i have bad memory.
when i say bad memory i mean i can remember specific events pretty well, but i cant remember things in a big picture.. like if someone told me to summarize my junior year in highschool i would be like uhhh..
anyone else?

I never really have any problems with long term memory, but my short term memory is crippiling. I need to be told something at least 3 times most of the time before I can understand whats going on, the i forget it in a minuite.

Dave,

I am with you, I have to write everything down.  It must have to do with anxiety and maybe racing thoughts.

I have the same issue.  My mind is always working overtime, so now that I am no medication sometimes some of the stuff I was thinking minutes before has already been lost.  I usually can stop and retrace my thoughts and remember what I was thinking, but I have even had cases where I have gotten up to do something and gotten half way and forgotten what it was I was going to do due to other things rattling around in my head.  Again, I usually remember shortly thereafter, but I find it kind of amusing.  It hasn't really gotten in my way because I am thinking so much that the same things will go through my head all the time, so I don't need to make a list in general.  Most of the time the things I need to do will just float around until I get them done.

It is weird though when you stop and just watch your thoughts float by.  LOL.

Take care,
OE

Also, im only 17 myself. MRI is normal, CT is normal, so I really dont care about it any more. Its pretty crippling though. My nmother will tell me, Go get me a watter please. Ill go "ok". Ill walk inside, and 5 out of 10 times i have to walk back and ask what she wanted again. Rarely ill need to do it 3 times.

I have short term memory problems as well.  Sometimes I'll just stop mid sentence and draw a blank and forget what I was talking about.  What was my point anyway??

I dont know if its the years of meds or the anxiety but it really sucks.  I also worry I'll have althimers because this started when I was a teenager.  I'm 32 now and it has gotten a little worse but I have found new ways to get thru it.  Like now I'll say...sorry, I lost it and change the subject.

I'm a Mom who forgets a lot of things and my kids remind me all the time.  I feel kindda stupid but I am the way I am and cant change it.

Hey i'm only 15 and have the same problem lol. i think stress makes our memories not as good, but its still very scary when it happens. I forget what i'm doing alot whenever i'm cleaning or something. The other day i ended up putting the string cheese in the silverware drawer where it rottd away for awhile until my mum found it o_O
ADD could definetley make the problem worse as well.

My long term memory is great, but ask me what I did five minutes ago... That's another story...  Especially when I'm really stressed nothing sticks in my brain. :dazed:

i also have really intense memory problems..
sometimes i cant even recall what i did a day previous..
and that sets off my anxiety.

it's very difficult b/c people around you act as though you are fucking stupid.

understand that there are people out there that KNOW your illness. that struggle with it daily.
we know what it is like to be totally privy and still completely lack control.
