What meds are you on thread..
« on: August 14, 2011, 05:25:33 PM »
Hi there,

I thought I would start a thread in this sub forum on exactly what the title indicates. We know a lot of each other on here through posts, profiles and chat. We often see each other posting in this very forum, but don't necessarily know what each other is taking. I hope this thread can be a positive one and by virtue of the fact that your on a med, your making an attempt at recovery and if you post here, I argue that you are showing openness and honesty.

I'll start and while a lot of regular posters know I am on Lexapro, not everyone knows the other meds I am on.

Lexapro was what I originally started and I went gradually from 5 to 10 to 15 to 20MG where I am settled now. I am ten months on Lexapro

Ive posted here on the next med I'm on enquiring how others fare. Im not sure there's many joining me, but I'm on Lyrica. I started at 25mg and thought I was having side effects, so stopped. I wasn't! Thus I tried it again and have increased in 25mg doses and am very settled on 600 MG a day now. 300 x 2 a day. I know some folk have terrible trouble here, but I've not a side effect in the world and am four months in.

The final med I'm on is probably unique here too. I've started a thread or two on the next med and see very few responding. The med isn't even available in the states. I am on Valdoxan at 25MG and can confirm that there are no side effects or discontinuation effect (I stopped for a few weeks!) The only bother here is the liver checks!

There you go. Lexapro. Lyrica. Valdoxan. I'm exposed again on a thread!

I hope others will join me in taking about their meds briefly.

Support and kindness to all readers

Adam

Hi Irish

I am not currently on any medication. I took Cipralex 20mg for just over a year which got me through some bad depression and the more acute anxiety.
Now I use a healthy lifestyle, exercise, yoga, chamomile tea and education about anxiety to get me through.

I still have some Ativan left for emergencies but I can happily say that I have not had one in many months.

I think meds help tremendously, and I have just reached a point where I no longer need them

Irishaman another exposure your name is Adam? My name is Mary Jo, now we are both exposed, lol  :action-smiley-065:

well most know me as the over my obsession of over analyzing I was on zoloft from 2003-Feb 2010 for PMDD I cold turkied no problems (although don't anyone else do this)  :angry-smiley-034: i went on ativan may 15th when anxiety got outta control didn't take it much but when I started other meds I was taking 1mg 3 times a day up.

I tried Celexa started at 20mgs to much for me and had to stop after 3 days (may have worked for me if I knew then to start slow)

I tried Cymbalta started at 20 mgs (was still on ativan 3x's a day to help) but when I reached 30 mgs had to stop (guess it wasn't for me) was on 11 days.

I did an immediate switch to Zoloft started slow am now on 75 mg goal is 100mgs but on Tues will move up to 87.5 mg so I am almost there  ;D

Have done a crossover to Clonazepam(klonopin) from ativan am now at 0.5mg 2 x's a day and I have one 1mg ativan that will be eliminated without a klonopin added, but I started on last Thur's eliminating the ativan cut it into 4's and am taking 3 pieces out of the 4 will try to eliminate another piece next week hopefully.

that's my meds so far

I have been taking clonazepam (brand name in the U.S. is klonopin) for over 3 years...dose .5mg twice a day and I keep ativan .5mg sublingual with me at all times just in case of panic attack.  It works very quickly because it is sublingual.  I haven't had to use it very often as the clonazepam seems to do the trick.  Clonazepam is a dual purpose medication for me as it works for essential tremor as well as anxiety/panic.

Other medications and vitamin supplements are:

Enbrel for psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis taken once a week by injections.

Imodium taken as needed for IBS...generally can get away with once a week

Calcium Carbonate...500 taken just once a day now that there have been studies that say it isn't that great for osteoporosis, but it is good for those who have problems with IBS diarrhea predominant.  Some take it before every meal to help with this problem, I don't.

Vitamin D supplement

Multivitamin for women over 50

There you have it...

Zoloft (sertraline) 200mg at night
Seroquel XR (quetiapine XR) 400mg at night
Klonopin (clonazepam) 0.25mg morning, 0.375mg at night

No vitamins, no herbs, no supplements, no natural stuff, no smoking, no hard drugs, no alcohol, except for the 2 or 3 drops of vanilla essence with alcohol that I use with pancakes 2 or 3 times per week :angel-smiley-026:

I am currently taking:

dextro-amphetamine: 10 mg, taken up to 4 times daily

propranolol: 20 mg, taken up to 3 times daily

I have to say, I love the propranolol. It is so helpful for my shakiness which often happens with anxiety.

As for other stuff: No vitamins/supplements etc. I don't drink much (maybe a beer or two each month for special occasions) and don't use drugs. Am a heavy caffeine user though.

187.5mg Effexor XR/day
1mg Ativan 'as needed' - primarily used only if I'm taking my kids out somewhere crowded, if something very upsetting happens unexpectedly, or if I am separated from my kids overnight.

Best combo I've been on. I've been on Prozac (lack of motivation and general indifference), Wellbutrin (maina), and Zoloft (activation syndrome) in the past.

Hey Irish

my son is an Adam.   ;D

I took Paxil in 2000 for a few months and then went off cold turkey when I found I was pg with my 5th.  I, surprisingly, had zero issues doing it that way.

I took zoloft following the birth of my 6th for about 6 months.  It really helped with my postpartum issues.  I only gained some weight and no other issues.

My cocktail:

Zoloft (sertraline) 150mg at night   (Been on this on an off since 2000 and think I'm getting the Z-poop-out)
Remeron 30mg at night (Love it !!!  Sleep like a baby!)
Klonopin (clonazepam) 1mg morning, 0.5mg at night
Multi-Vitamin in the AM

Also,  I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, which I was told exacerbated my anxiety and depression, so I use a CPAP machine.

Funny...on my last visit to my doc, after 2 years of dealing with this crap, without actually TELLING me, I pretty much came away with the same conclusion, and it has made a big difference lately.

I told him about what my biggest fears were and how I get depressive episodes every now and then.  After I explained this to him, he basically said, "Honestly, I haven't heard of that type of situation."

Him saying this basically told me that, if I truly had something WRONG with me, I'd exhibit the classical symptoms of somebody who was sick.  As it is, my main problem is that I'm just a headcase.  I'm neurotic.  I overthink and overanalyze everything.  In doing this, I have basically THOUGHT myself into an "anxiety disorder".  It was kind of refreshing to realize it.

Bama- so i went to see my tdoc last night, and he was like, maybe this is the new you. maybe the new you is just going to be neurotic. and there's nothing wrong with that.

and i'm trying to embrace it. i will always be neurotic about my health, others' health and things that come along the way.

it's the new neurotic me. and i accept that meds help to calm that down.

bama and daisy,

are either one of you on any meds?  neurotic or not, it isn't enjoyable living that way, so if not on meds, maybe it could be an avenue you could explore.

no worries....i think this is a great thread. it helps those who aren't on meds and either are afraid to or don't know what to try get an idea of what everyone else is on. even though our bodies are all different and react to medications differently- just as a disclaimer.

Hi everybody,

I take generic prozac for depression (fluoxetine 20mg/day), generic xanax for anxiety (alprazolam .5mg-1mg/day), and generic unisom for insomnia. As you can see I'm a generic kind of guy LOL! That's cuz I'm poor and uninsured so my meds need to be as cheap as possible!

After having lots of side-effects with paxil, my doc switched me to prozac and I've had much better results with it so far (its been 4 or 5 weeks now I think). It's helped my moods, given me more energy, and gives me practically no side-effects (except vivid dreams which doesn't bother me anyway). The only problem I've noticed with it so far is it doesn't help much with the anxiety, but the xanax does. The xanax also has been very effective for me with minimal side effects.

Currently i only take ativan as needed and havent need it in quite some time (knock on wood).  SSRI's were discussed, but since I also take a triptan med for migraines, it was decided not to mix the two (has possible side effect of Serotonin syndrome) and since my migraine med is in the form of an injection, docs decided it was too big of a chance for me to mix the two.

I also take Imitrex and Crestor (high cholesterol).  Other than that, I am on a vegetarian diet I exercise regularly, work full time and when at home stay as busy as possible to keep the mind busy.

*Sigh* I will list my medications I am now taking, but for the past couple of weeks I believe they have lost their effectiveness.
I take:
Sertaline generic for Zoloft 200mg once a day
Bupropion generic for Wellbutrin 150mg a day
I also take Lorazepam generic for Ativan 1mg as needed

The other medication I take is birth control pills

I am getting a new doctor so maybe she can help me find something more effective.
