Yellow Stool
« on: August 13, 2011, 11:59:58 AM »
I passed a bowel movement today..My stool was YELLOW!!!! i called the Doctors and they said that the contrast they used for my CT Scan would not cause that. They said my pancreas looked "Slightly Full" in the CT scan, now I am thinking that it is something to do with my Pancreas. Any suggestions to what can cause Yellow stool?

I have a Referral to see a GI Specialist, but I cant make an appointment till I get that referral.

Did your doctor seem concerned? If not than I wouldn't be either.

How long have you been having yellow stool?

Yellow stool can be caused by anything you might have eaten, drank or took(like vitamins).
About a month ago I had literally blue stool for 3 days! It freaked me out and I began googling, which was the most horrible
thing I could of ever done but everything turned out to be okay. It ended up being because of a couple of pieces of birthday cake
I had eaten a couple of days earlier which had black frosting on it, lol.

I wouldn't worry about it to much.

I first noticed the yellow stool this morning when I woke up. It wasnt yellow yesterday. I dont take vitamins and the only thing that I ate or drank after 6pm yesterday was Mashed potatos and ALOT of water. I am trying to keep a bland diet till my GI Appt. I thought it was the contrast they put in me to take the CT scan, but they said it wouldnt cause it to turn yellow. Ill give it a few days to see what happens. Has this happened to anyone?

I've had "yellowish" stool for about three weeks because of diarrhea and a series of antibiotics. Although I didn't know how to perfectly describe the color, it was yellow for me. However, in my stool exam, it was stated there that my stool was "brown yellow". I don't know if that makes any difference. Hang in there!

I was told by my doctor that variations in color are normal, but if the color is not normal
consistently for a few days to call a doctor to be on the safe side as it may indicate
infections, etc.

Yellow stool can be caused by numerous things, including infection, food digestion to quickly, Acid Reflux, etc.... Glad you are seeing a GI Dr. to put your mind at ease.

Bile from the gallbladder causes stool to turn a brown color.  Could be a gallbladder issue if it is not turning into a brown color. Do you have pain in the upper right quadrant of your abdomen?  Also do you have discomfort or nausea when you eat fatty foods? These are also signs of gallbladder problems.
However if this just started after a procedure sounds more like it is related to the procedure.
Also when you have food poisoning or ingested some type of bacteria it can turn your stool yellow however you would probably have other symptoms, like some type of diarrhea and or abodminal pain.  In this case the Dr will just give you some type of antibiotic, I think  flagyl and Cipro or something along that line.  (I just graduated from nursing school and this is what I learned in class...hope this can help to rule out some things)

Yellow stools indicate inadequate bile, which could be caused either by a bile duct obstruction (caused by inflammation or stones in the liver, gall bladder, or pancreas).  Its possible to have this if you're having inflammation in one of these organs, or if you have rapidly changed your diet.  Follow up on it if it persists for longer than a few days, and starts happening regularly.  You can ask to have an abdominal ultrasound if you are worried, but let your doc. be the judge, I'm sure its not a big dea.
