lymph node
« on: May 31, 2007, 03:51:09 PM »
I have a lymph node on one side of my groin that is swollen. As far as I know it's been swollen my whole life, I remember playing with it during my past episodes of hypochondria.

Is it possible to have a lymph node swollen that long for no good reason? I had read that lesions on the scrotal surface can cause lymph nodes in the groin to enlarge and I have had a mole near that area my whole life that still hasn't been completely conquered. It is on the same side as the node. Could that be it?

I'm not too worried about it but in the back of my mind the diseases are there...

Hi Folkwire,

I have a lymp node on one side of my neck under my jaw. It is always there and sometimes bigger. I've also had glandular fever years ago - I think it's refered to as Mono in the US. Some people can have milder glandular fever and never know. However once you have had it, your glands can always have lumps and such like.

I doubt it's anything at all to do with your mole. It's coincidence that it's in the same area. If you had a lump under the mole, the mole's appearance would be the first thing to change before a lump ever appeared.

I've also got lumps in my boobs. Had them for as long as I've had boobs. They can be sore sometimes.

I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Well I'm not worried about the mole, I'm having surgery to get all of it removed in a few weeks cause it's got dysplastic cells in it.

Thank you for the reassurance. I know it's silly to fear it since it's been that way for at least 7-8 years. But you know how that goes, we suffer from the same illness.

I've actually had 6 moles removed in two sessions 4 yrs ago. I'd had them a long time and they just irritated me and made me feel self-conscious. They all went away to be tested and they were all fine. One of them was on my bikini line. I hated it!

So glad I had them all removed! Felt like a different person. I have a few wee scars but I don't mind them. Very scar tells a story, right?

You'll be fine.

Please don't worry about your lymph node. It's one of my earliest memories of hypo. Went to Dr at 12 yrs thinking I had breast cancer - The Dr didn't realise I had a 28AA bra on at the time! I sound so silly, but when you're worried you're worried.

Truth is my mum has spoken to my Dr about my obsession with my health. I always remember he said, it's good to be aware of your body, but keep it in proportion.

I prefer to think of myself as an anxious person rather than say "I suffer from anxiety". The latter gets me down, ironically. I don't like the word suffer for myself. That's strange isn't it?

If its been there you whole life and your not sick yet i wouldn't worry about it. I've never heard of a mole causing an enlarged node. Are you sure its really enlarged and not just normal? Its okay to be able to see and feel them.

Well it's about 1.5 cm, which upon further googling(I did it safely I swear!) is an accept size for an inguinal lymph node. Why my other one is smaller I do not know.

The one in my neck is this size, certainly no smaller. Always been this size and sometimes a bit bigger if I'm ill.

Next time you're unwell with a cold or something, see if it is any bigger.

If it is, this is a normal reaction of the body's defences to fight infection.

Nothing in our body is perfectly even so maybe its just naturally bigger then the other. Sometimes also after infection they never go back down, maybe sometime you had a nasty cut on that leg or something that caused it to go up and it just never returned to normal.
