Remeron Stopped Working - Panic
« on: August 03, 2011, 01:25:34 AM »
I have been on Remeron, Lexapro, Neurontin, and Klonopin for panic attacks.  I began the Remeron about a month ago and slowly began to improve.  I was able to reduce the Klonopin and Neurontin.  For whatever reason, this week I have become more anxious each day and today I began to have a panic attack, and I had to take 2mg of Xanax (I have prn just in case).  I am so frustrated because I thought I was getting my life back and then boom, this happens.  I don't know what to do.  Is this common with Remeron?

I would say no. It is not common at all. As you are lowering the other meds down it may be slight withdrawls. My thinking on this is that your doctor is going to take you off some of the other meds and get you on Remeron full time. As they are similar forms of medication. You might just be having a slight kick back from the lowering of the other medication. If you are ever in doubt contact either your doctor or your local chemist and don't be afraid to ask them. That is what they are there for. They will always answer any questions. And I would still go with the lowering of the other medication. As opposed to the new Remeron.

Remeron is probably working but you may have increased anxiety because of the klonopin and/or neurontin reduction. As an exemple, I was anxiety free but it cames back when I started to reduce klonopin. I was taking it since a year. So I'm not surprised.

No. That is the average dose. I take 30mg at night. Love it. Puts me to sleep. He is just stepping up the amount. Normal thing to do. My guess is he will lower the other doses of the medication you are coming off of down. As he steps you over from one to the other. You have nothing to worry about at all.

Hi,

Just wondered how you were doing with Remeron, did the increase dose help you?

I started at 7.5mg for three nights. I slept pretty good, mood better, anxiety at bay.  (I have to mention I was on Lexapro four 4 weeks and tapered off 3-4 days. My last day was the day I started Remeron, so my low anxiety at the time might have been helped by Lexapro).  Anyway, after three nights I jumped to 15mg.  Same amount of sleep, mood decent, anxiety at bay.  A couple of days I was feeling really good, mostly in the morning, then it seemed like my mood tanked in the afternoon, still decent, but not as happy and clear headed.  Then a few days later, I woke up feeling decent, but by the afternoon, my mood taked completely, and had massive anxiety, and all the awful feelings/thoughts came back.  Why?  Was this Lexapro withdrawal symptoms finally showing up after 7 days being off, or was this Remeron side effects that finally started up after it had time to build up in my system?  Since then i tried 30mg a couple of times, didn't help with anxiety, mood a little, but sleep is still bad, since I have all this new anxiey.  I feel like I did before going on Lexapro. So, maybe I just went back to how I felt before Lexapro, and Remeron hasn't had a chance to build up and be effective yet.  My MD said I could try 30mg, but my pdoc recommended I try going back to 7.5mg a few nights to see how I do. I might try that starting tonight to see how I do.
