Another God question
« on: July 28, 2011, 02:49:55 PM »
Christians what happens when you make a deal with God and break it? Will he hold you to it or understand? I made a deal with God I wouldn't do something a long time ago and if I did it God could send me to hell. Well I later did it. So does that mean God will send me to hell? I am so scared and worry about it all the time.

I don't believe you will go to hell. Is God not about forgiveness as well? Nobody is perfect. We all make mistakes. If you have a true belief in your God then you can seek his forgiveness and he won't deny it. That is what confession is all about. Bit like starting over. We can't all be expected to go through life without the odd blipp on our charts along the way. We may make silent promises. We may break them too. That is all just part of life. And part of the deal with God is forgiveness and understanding. Ask and you shall recieve.

Our God is a very forgiving God.  Just ask him to forgive you and He will.  I do not know if you read the Bible, but if not...you might start in the New Testament and you can read all about HIS love and forgiveness.  Put this fear to rest!  God bless.

honestly I don't look at God and think Deals.  God, as cuch says, is loving and forgiving.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

Thank you guys for your responses. I was on another forum a month ago and this woman told me that if we enter into deals with God He expects to keep them. It scared me so much!

sweet----

let's face it there is a loooooong spectrum on the belief in God-there as some who are exceedingly conservative fundamentalist all the way to the angry atheists.  All kinds of beliefs etc.  Personally what that woman said---I'd take with a grain of salt.

I think he meant that you can't make a deal with god.   so the DEAL didn't exist, not God.  Atleast that is how I read it

I made a deal with God as a teenager that if I could just live long enough to become a mother, He could take me from earth.

Well, you can imagine how awful I was feeling leading up to the birth of my first child!  I began to panic that I hadn't quite clarified that I wanted to also RAISE my babies...so I was worried that I wasn't going to live much past the birth.

*ahem*  That was over 13 years ago now, and I have grown in my relationship with God as well in my understanding of how loving He truly is.  He knows the deepest desires of our hearts, and He also recognizes words said in desperation without understanding.  If He can forgive each of us for countless breaking of the 10 commandments, He can certainly love us through breaking our own promises.

Isn't it wonderful to know that God never breaks His promises?   :happy0151:

:happy0151:  I'm glad it helped.  I can't justify my veering off God's path, but I can be forgiven for my transgressions.  It's comforting to know that.

esqmills- I have had those thoughts too. God knows it's OCD and it's something you cannot control. He knows you do not want these thoughts and I am sure He doesn't hold it against you what so ever.

in church we sing a song called Loving and Forgiving.
"loving and forgiving are You, Oh Lord. Slow to anger, rich in kindness, loving and forgiving are You."
God isn't a spiteful, bitter person. He's going to be there for you through anything. God is our Father, our Protector. He won't send you to hell. Rest assured. Pray about it. Pray for his love. HE will show you it'll be ok :) Blessings.
