Anxiety sleeping away from home
« on: July 06, 2011, 12:08:36 PM »
Hi. I'm new here, and I want to find a solution to my anxiety about sleeping away from home. This started about 2 years ago when my husband and I went camping. We hiked into a campsite, and when it started getting dark, I went into the tent, and I started worrying that if I wanted to go home, we would have to take down everything and hike back down to the car, and that the nearest bathroom was a long walk away. This started my stomach turning in knots, and I started getting the shakes and shivers. I never did end up needing the bathroom, but it took me a long time to fall asleep, and I was constantly nauseated the entire night. This started a fear of sleeping away from home. We went to a bed and breakfast for my birthday about 6 months later, and when it started getting close to bedtime, I got the upset stomach, constant need to go to the bathroom, and I spent most of the night sipping soda and eating crackers, trying to stave off the nausea. I went to my sister's house a few months after that for 2 nights, and had the same problem with shakes and constant trips to the bathroom for diarrhea, although the next night was considerably better. That's when I realized I had a problem. I have tried to avoid going anywhere where I won't be home to sleep. I am leaving for a camping trip tomorrow where I will have to spend the night, and I am already starting to feel anxiety about spending the night at camp. Any suggestions would be wonderful!

Hey,
I am hoping that by some miracle you will see this. I had nearly an identical experience. I was camping with my wife on a mountaintop at a park and I the anxiety kicked in. Now I don't want to sleep away from home unless it is pretty close, like less than an hour away. I was just wondering what happened on your next camping trip. Hope all is well. God Bless.
