Bought myself a symbolic "angel wings" bracelet
« on: July 02, 2011, 01:03:03 PM »
This may sound silly to some, but I saw this bracelet (at Kohl's) while shopping yesterday with a friend and thought it might provide some solace for me. It's a thin, knotted adjustable cord bracelet with a small angel wing and turquoise bead to represent both protection and luck. I'm planning to wear it just as a reminder that there's nothing to worry about.

Does anyone else wear jewelry as a source of comfort?

I have a watch that means quite alot to me. It was a gift from my grandmother for Christmas. She was fine when i recieved the watch and we spent Christmas day together, all was well. But she unexpectedly died the very next morning following Christmas day. That was 10 years ago now. I wore the watch for years, and then i lost it when we moved house about 5 years ago. I worried that i had left it behind somewhere in the move. However when we were clearing out some things from a cupboard in our current house about 2 years ago i found it again - in its original box, quite worn, and hadn't ran for along time. Must have put it in there for safe keeping and then forgotten. I worried the battery would have corroded the insides, but i took it to a jeweller's anyhow. Luckily the i was told the battery hadn't corroded and a new one was fitted. Worked a charm!

I wear the watch for periods of time but, as i am determined to keep it as a reminder, i try not to wear it too often so i put it back in its box whenever its not in use. The glass face is a tad cloudy on the inside now. It is a traditional style of watch but its not superexpensive (i have a watch which is alot more expensive) but seems as a i am a man and a watch is the only piece of jewellery i wear, its the most important piece of jewellery to me. Its a comforting reminder of someone i shan't ever forget and their feelings for me. :winking0008:

I do find some comfort in jewelry (and Kohl's is a great place to get it!). I have several rings and bracelets that give me different comforts at different times. I am quite attached to my watch because I have a thing about knowing the time, but it's nothing special. I had a watch my husband gave me when we were dating or first married, which I loved but no longer works. It's not jewelry, but I do carry a small rosary in my pocket every day. I have a bracelet style one I sleep in. Very comforting.
