Job Interview.. Help!
« on: June 23, 2011, 10:07:05 AM »
Hiya all,

Right, I have a new dilemma... I've *finally* got myself a job interview (after deciding to quit Uni cause it drove my anxiety levels crazy) and I'm so happy but I have no idea what to wear?!

I mean, it's my first 'proper' interview for a full time job & I have no idea! The interview is going to take 2.5hours and part of it is on the shop floor (it's a trainee program with an opticians) so they said to dress 'smart'... Unfortunately I think this means no to my DocMartens so I'm stuck!

Is it a suit affair with heels or ...? Any ideas be fab!

... Have you guessed I have GAD yet? (oh & just been diagnosed with Panic Disorder too... Yup, I'm a bucket of fun! haha)

Thanks guys!  :-*

I would say some nice dress slacks with a nice button down shirt would be sufficient. Since it is your first full time job interview you must be young and you don't want to look like you are trying TOO hard by going out and buying a suit. It will be nice to have one eventually, but I find some nice black dress slacks and a nice shirt (short sleeved if the weather is warm or long sleeve if it isn't) don't wear open toed shoes. A nice pair of flats that match your shirt would be fine.

You might also try a knee length skirt if the weather is warm; but still no open toed shoes.

Don't wear too much makeup, don't have a brightly colored nail polish, and DON'T wear any strong smelling perfumes or lotions, if you smoke, use some hand sanitizer before you go in and chew a piece of gum before as well (don't forget to take it out before you go in).

**My mom is an HR director, and used to be the HR director of a bank (professional dressing of course). Through the years I have helped her compile and organize her information on Proper Dresscodes and other workplace etiquette.

I'm right there with you...GAD, panic disorder, agoraphobia, OCD and depression...plus a bunch of phobias!  :goofy:

Good luck on your interview!! The first time is very nerve-racking when you're thinking about it before-hand...and just remember, even if you're freaking out inside, most people can't tell that you are nervous!!  :)

I have CDO, it's like OCD, but all the letters are in alphabetical order, as they should be!!
