Sudden onset of anxiety
« on: June 18, 2011, 12:19:04 AM »
March21, 2011 I said goodbye to my daughter in montreal like I had done 5 or 6 times before and felt a sudden surge of anxiety that has been my constant companion ever since. I have a hard time working or focusing on anything for that matter. I find it does subside in the evenings and I almost feel normal again only for it to return again in the morning. I am seeing a councillor to work on issues from my past. My big problem is that when I am really feeling anxtious I go to negative thoughts which provoke intense fear and I spiral down into a black hole that is extremley hard to recover from. I really don't knnow what to do from here. I feel I am running out of options. Any advise anyone?

At best you can try and distract yourself when you feel the anxiety coming back on in the mornings. Try and give yourself something to do. It doesn't have to be much. Anything to stop you thinking inwardly. To take the focus away from yourself. Because once we just sit there and the thoughts begin to flow they never seem to stop. It is up to us to find some method of stopping them. Breaking the cycle. I know it may be hard to even motivate yourself to do anything at all. But they are the real tests we give ourselves. I am sure if your therapist is good this will be something you should be working on. How to distract the mind. Even if it means sitting down with a pen and paper and writing down how exactly you feel. Your mood, thoughts, reactions and symptoms. Simple theraphy exercise. Look for a pattern over a few weeks and then look to see where you can introduce changes to the thoughts or the reactions. Change those two and the rest will change by themselves. But just keep pushing yourself. It can be hard. But the effort is well worth it.

I have had that experience, and certainly past life issues can attribute to that slide to the black hole. Basically, I found that the negative thoughts are just that negative thoughts. They can't hurt me. I don't go there anymore, and try and find a GOOD thought to replace it.
