Exercise and Worse
« on: June 17, 2011, 12:01:54 PM »
I walk everyday at least 2 miles and when I am bad much more.

I met a doctor specializes in brain rehabilitation and he said that I needed to do more strenuous aerobic exercise to heal the brain. I started riding my bike about 10 miles a day in addition to my walks. After I ride I don’t feel worse but my overall condition is going down hill.

What is your experience with exercise?? Does hard exercise make you worse

I have had severe anxiety - recovered 100% several times (for many years) and then stress put me back again. Anxiety drugs made me much worse so I have to do it all natural.

I feel excellent after exercising. It may be psychological, as I feel I have accomplished something. I usually lift for about 30 minutes, then run 3 miles, then bike a bit.

A little over a year ago I was having a lot of trouble with panic attacks. Back then, I would feel awful during aerobic exercise. I think the feeling of breathing faster reminded me of a panic attack - just a theory though!

The one positive thing I have to say about anxiety is it has motivated me to work out more. It feels good to hit the gym and let out all the tension.

Good luck to you rik... keep it up

10 miles of riding every day probably puts you right at your maximum for healthy aerobic exercise. Most of my doctors have always told me that 2.5hrs/week is the minimum, and 5hrs/week is maximum. At 10mi per day you're doing about 70mi per week - 70/5 = 14 - typical biking speed is around 10-15mph, so it sounds like you're right there around the maximum healthy daily aerobic levels.

Are you eating plenty of whole carbohydrates and fats before and after your rides? Consuming lots of electrolyte-supplemented drinks? Might just be burning more energy than you're consuming. If your 10mi ride is taking less than 30min then you could also be over exerting your body, too.
