Quitting the horrible cigarette habit
« on: June 11, 2011, 05:17:32 PM »
So today I've officially been smoke free for a week, and my physical withdrawals are pretty much over, although I still get irritable and spacey occasionally. The real issue now is the psychological aspect. While the cravings are not too bad any more and I've gotten pretty good at thinking about how repulsive they are when I get a craving, the big part of my issues comes from making new habits. I now have so much more time extra time in the day to fill up with things. Maybe I should learn how to crochet and take crochet breaks or something. I've been drinking a lot of coffee lately, but that another addiction, and I don't really want to jump around addictions. During my withdrawals, I smoked pot constantly, and it helped, but I don't really want to be high all the time. I'll probably just become a coffee snob. Hey, it's better than getting cancer and smelling nasty. I really think the hardest part of quitting is that fact that you have to rearrange your days to not revolve around cigarettes.

That was definitely the hardest part for me!  I know they say not to do it during high stress times, but I waited until we did our move.  We moved across the country and I knew I would be around my husband (who quit when I said I would in February this year) and couldn't smoke around him or the baby... so it's like I am getting to develop a whole new lifestyle by moving.

Obviously you can't just pick up and move though lol...

I also drank water everytime I had a craving, because, you can't walk around high lol

I replaced the smokes and the can (smokeless tobacco) with running and exercise.  Got a dog too.  You have to find what works for you (but come on, who doesn't love a dog?!).

CONGRATULATIONS!
