Does this sound like IBS to you
« on: May 14, 2007, 11:46:24 AM »
so i have anxiety for a couple years now off and on . Latley ive been fine this past couple weeks ive been dieting and eating healthy. Anyway about a week ago i had some dull aches in my stomach which instantly trigger a panic attack i was a wreck the rest of the day. I was fine after that but then started to notice some cramping and gas pains and like gugling type sounds. Lookin back i noticed for the past month i havent been going to the bathroom like i used to . my  Bms are way smaller. i dont get diareaa or anything but i feel i have to strain jsut to go the littlebit that i do . Other then that i feel fine . But ive been  scaring myself into thinking it colon cancer and im only 24 . Id like to hear your opions and thoughts! thanks

Could be Superchill.
There are various different 'arms' to IBS.  Some people suffer IBS D and some IBS C and some a mixture of the two.  This sounds to me like you are suffering with constipation and are backed up.
I suggest that you go to see your GP and get him to do an examination of your colon (through your tummy - just in case you were going woooohhhh!!).  He will be able to feel if you are indeed backed up and if you are, prescrible something.  Movicol is pretty good at getting it all moving again .....  ;D

To add to what Bronte said which I agree with, yes it does sound like IBS. I've had IBS for about 8 months now and have very similar symptoms.

Generally if you have IBS-D, the backlog eventually gets broken down by the body and IBS-C results, an alternating pattern is prevalent for most people.

Anxiety has a nasty way of making your gut slow down or speed up - your stonach is like your body's 2nd brain and is highly sensitive to anxiety states.

IBS is a very common condition within the western world now. I think the symptoms you have a very unlikely to be anything else.

However, a check-up with your GP wont hurt and they can prescribe a spasmodic to you which helps gut motility.
