hello im new here.
my boyfriend whom we live together, he has very severe PTSD. He was in iraq and was med discharged due to seizures and ptsd. the va is not helping him at all, he isn't on any medications, and its oinly getting worse day by day and i know one day he is going to just snap and i am terrified for that to happen.  he needs on medications, antianxiety, antidepressent meds asap. what do i do??? he told me the other night that he is loosing contgrol of his body, the more he works out, the less tolerance he has. he has a very short tempature, and has issues at his job because of customers that he just wants to start beating them up. he told me last night hes loosing control and he needs help... like i said what do i do?? weve been to the hospital twice for his seizures but he never got any meds.

You need to find a psychiatrist to prescribe meds to calm the extreme mood swings and anger and other issues and to start some sort of recovery CBT programme that suitable for PTSD.  He cannot go on trying to cope with this without any help he is already showing classic signs of extreme stress and anxiety.  I dont want to frighten you and I am not a doctor or qualified in any way to diagnose this is just my opinion but if these serious mental health issues are left untreated he could end up having a nervous breakdown.  I guess the armed forces havent offered any sort of support for the battle fatigue?  Is that becuase he is now discharged?

I would advise you try and find out as much as you can about PTSD specifically in war/soldiers etc there is a lot of stuff on the internet but not all of it is accurate.  The BPS is an excellent place to start (The British Psychological Society) it will also contain reputable links to other sites and information.  You didnt say whether you were British/European?American?  But it doesnt matter because the BPS and other European and American psychologists follow the same theories and teachings.

There is a member on this forum whos username is Cherryjeff and she is a qualified clinical psychologist so mayb you could PM her for some advice because I am still training and have no formal power to advise you on a professional level my advice is just in a freindly manner.

Good Luck and maybe you boyfriend would benefit from reading some of the posts himself. :action-smiley-065:

Wow!  If you are in the US Armed Services all of your boyfriends medical costs should be covered and he should receive long term disability from them for his services.  It makes no sense why he would not be getting excellent health care.  He falls into a small subset of the US that actually does have excellent healthcare.  Why is the VA not helping with healthcare costs and medication etc.?  Even if he was dishonorably discharged, then he would be covered.  My best friend in high school had problems after serving in the military and ended up with Bipolar disorder and all of his medication is covered as well as long term disability.  What branch of the armed services was he in and is there someone to contact with regards to this?

Keep us posted.  I would think if nothing is really being done then you may consider speaking with a good lawyer!

In the meantime, I agree that maybe your boyfriend should be chatting with us in the short term for reassurance purposes.

Take care,
OE
