No Smoking clinic
« on: April 29, 2007, 07:47:06 PM »
Wish me luck guys Monday 30th April is my first smoking clinic of a 6 week course.  I dont know if the US have these clinics but basically they are there to offer, support coping strategies and free nicotine replacement therapies.  I have tried numerous times before to give up smoking and have always started again so this time I am going to try this way.  Smoking also contributes to my anxiety and health anxiety, money worries, depression etc.  I cant list any positive things about it so only good things can come from giving up.

Any tips from any ex smokers would be greatly appreciated.

Good Luck! I've never heard of a smoking clinic. I wish I could find one, because I know I need to stop smoking.
Let me know how it goes!!!

I really thought there would be access to these clinics in the US.  Basically its a 6 week course of which all 6 sessions have to be attended.  Each session is an hour long.  The first 2 weeks are information and support and meeting other members and working out what the best nicotine replacement would suit.  The 3rd week week we set our give up smoking date and receive our free 12 week course of nictoine replacement I am going to try the lozenges. then the remaining 3 weeks are progress and support and to see how things are going etc.  There is a much higher rate for people giving up smoking and succeeding than those who just try and give up on their own without support.  They are government run and funded because of the health impacts of smoking, I had to wait a month for a place on the course because a total no smoking ban in public places (pubs, restaurants, clubs) is government enforced on 1st July so everybody is trying to get in on the clinics to give up??

I will pass on all my tips and things I learn Sarah just to see if any of it can help you in any way>  Do you have to pay for your nicotine replacement therapy in USA?

Wish we did have these around here, I've never heard of such a place.

Yes, we have to pay for the replacement therapy, it's outrageously expensive too.  But still, less than smoking :)

Haven't found one that works yet.

I am doing really well with the aid of the lozenges and chewing gum of course nothing is a sure fire cure willpower still plays a huge part in kicking the habit.  But at least with the Nicotine replacement you dont have to suffer terrible cravings constantly.

Good luck to anyone who is looking to give up

Congrats on quitting!  Keep it up.  You will feel so much better when you get through it.
