A story of Ed! Before and After! True story!
« on: April 07, 2011, 01:33:09 AM »

Let me share with you a story about a worker in my company named Ed!

Ed came to our company to join our sales force!  He was very shy, introverted, with obvious signs of low self esteem and social anxiety!  He couldn't even look you in the eye when introduced!  He applied for the position and was hired because our HR felt sorry for him!  We did not expect him to last 1 day!  He came back on the second day, then the third day, and he kept coming back!  At the end of the first month working for us, Ed became the top salesperson in the company!  Everyone, including myself was amazed on how such a thing could happen!  He defied all the odds!  He overcame all obstacles of his perceived limitations, and excelled in our company!  He was not only the top salesperson, but he also set a new company sales record in a month for any salesperson ever in the history of our company!  He far exceeded the expectations of everyone in the company including myself!

I studied him everyday!  I was fascinated on how someone like Ed could accomplish such a feat!  I could see that he was uncomfortable in certain situations, but he always rose to the occasion!  He was quiet, but I could tell he was taking it all in during the daily sales meetings!  Everyday I would say something to inspire and motivate the group of salespeople, and Ed was absorbing it all, and applying what he had learned, while others just listened passively!

Today I got to talk with Ed for a while, and I asked him what he attributes his success to!  He told me that he wanted to change!  He was tired of being viewed as a nobody, a loser, a geek, and other things he did not believe he was!  Today Ed has more confidence, more money, more belief that he can become a different person!  Ed is right!  He now has a lot of friends and admirers from his accomplishment, in spite of his past!  I have never in my life seen such transformation from anyone like Ed!

Ed has never had a girlfriend in his life and at age 39, he even admits to still being a virgin!  With his newfound confidence, he has found the courage to ask a pretty girl in our office out, and they now have been going out for the past week!  If you seen or talked to Ed, you would know that what I describe of him is of no exageration!

Today we use Ed as an example of what one can become if you really want something bad enough!  He is an inspiration to all of the new salespeople, giving them hope that "if he can do it, I can do it!"  That is what one can do if he, or she is inspired and determined to accomplish something really bad!

That's what I'm talking about! Good story! I'm all about refusing to be ruled by completely unjustified fears. It is absolutely uncomfortable and sometimes downright painful to do things in the face of the anxiety, but it must be done to move on to a life where fear is not the main motivator for your actions and the main emotion of your interactions!!

Truly inspiring. A salesperson has to be very interactive and social with the customers and just reading this makes me wonder how he did it! I myself suffer from SA and such stories help me move forward!

I believe that Ed made the decision!  When one truly makes a decision (to cut away from) to do something, there is no turning back!  He was very uncomfortable in many situations, but pushed his way through the fears, as he knew that this was the only way to change the thing that he hated about himself all those years!  He "acted as if!"  He acted as if he was already the person that he wanted to be!  If you can picture in your mind how you want to be, act the part, and you will eventually be the part!  "If you want to have something that you never had, you need to be someone that you never been!"

Great story pauly! Truly inspiring. I think we all are capable of doing what Ed did. We just have to put ourselves out there & believe!
