Increasing Paxil
« on: April 01, 2011, 11:40:03 PM »
Ive been on 30 mg of paxil for the last 3 months or so and I would say that Im about 75% better. My doctor increased my dosage to 40 mg and I'm going to start taking it tomorow. I'm kind of anxious about taking it because 40 mg seems like a lot for paxil. Is it possible that this could have some bad side effects? im mainly worried about it causing bad derealization, brain fog or making me emotionally numb. Any input would be appreciated. Also does this sound like it would be effective to help me finally get over this anxiety?

This sounds like a great plan that your doctor has for you!  It makes sense to up your Paxil if you are feeling 75% better on 30 Mg's!  Upping to 40 Mg's may bring you 100% improvement.  The maximum daily dose range for Paxil, I believe is 50 Mg's.  I think this increase will bring you much improvements, and if you have not already experienced some of these feared side effects you mentioned, I don't foresee you experiencing them with the 10mg increase!  You have been on Paxil for 3 months, so this increase that your doctor recommended, seems to make perfect sense!  Bravo to your doctor!   :happy0151:

Hey thanks for the input it really helped me to take the paxil. Its my second day on 40 mg. and I really feel worse than how I was feeling. I kind of have this detached foggy feeling. I had this feeling almost constantly when my anxiety first started 2 or 3 months ago but it had almost disappeared. I feel kind of bummed out because I feel like I've taken a couple steps back. Do you think this is a symptom of my medicine or my anxiety acting up because I'm over analyzing again? If it is my meds do you think it will go away after awhile or is it possible 40mg is to much?

Regardless of the cause of increased symptoms, weather it be due to meds, or anxiety, accept it for what it is, and do not overanalyze it!  You should be feeling better in a few days!  Sometimes its 2 steps back, and 1 step forward when recovering from anxiety!  Just know that you are safe, and the improved feelings will come shortly!  The increase from 30 to 40 mgs should not be making you feel much worse, if you did fine for 3 months on 30 mg, you are fine on the 40 mgs!  Do not fret, improvement is near!
