What causes extreme farting!! sorry

three months ago I started having attacks of extreme pressure around my waist like someone blowing a balloon up and down mostly left sided accompanied by very loud explosions, popping and gurgling sounds and unbelievable farts! Sorry for being explicit but how else can I describe.
The pressure would stop me from sleeping although its not painful as such and it can last from hours to days.

I had blood tests for liver, kidneys blood count etc and all normal. Fecal occult blood and coeliac tests negative. I had scan of aorta after Dr mistook gas filled colon for aneurysm!! aorta normal but colon full of gas. told at hospital it probably IBS

I had sigmoidoscopy month ago and again perfectly normal colon just distended from gas.

On monday i am having a full abdominal ultrasound of liver, gallbladder, pancreas, kidneys, ovaries and womb. Had a ovary/womb scan 6 monhts ago that wasnormal.
I have small gallstones of 10years but if gallstones were causing a prolbem my liver test would not be normal and this is not gallbladder pain just extreme gas.

My GP and consultant both say IBS or food intolerance.

I am terrified that something like ovarian cancer will show up on scan on monday as my cousin has just finished treatment for this and hers was found on ultrasound scan.

What can cause such extreme gas???

It's probably down to the IBS. You could try keeping a food diary and investigating whether certain types of food set it off.

I don't think farting is a sign of ovarian cancer, so don't worry about that!

I am not mocking you but your first paragraph made me laugh but hey it gets to the point!!

It sounds just like me when I get an IBS attack I also suffer like this around the time of my period.  The other thing I will say is that I also burp a lot, and I did have it pointed out to me that its because I am taking in so much air through hyperventilating with anxiety an of course the air has to come back out again, and maybe with 'farting' lol and burping is the way.

However, on a more serious note its always best to get checked out by your doctor as you have already been doing

Sounds every bit like IBS - I get this symptom so often to the extent I could clear a room in 3 seconds flat! My triggers are: dairy, too much fibre, soya, fatty/greasy foods and combining certain foods (some proteins with carbohydrates in one meal are an absolute no-no!) Also, avoid fizzy drinks or drinking within 1/2 an hour of eating. Plus, I've seen it listed in several anxiety symptom lists. I really wouldn't worry about it at all - just try experimenting with your food.

Had my ultrasound this morning and apart from the usual known small gallstones everything else including ovaries and womb normal phew. Also no gallstones stuck anywhere they shouldn't be.

Will now wait and see how long before I get appt back with consultant.
