...WIDE OPEN SPACES...
« on: April 21, 2007, 07:27:18 AM »
I am scared to death of big open spaces. I am scared to look at the sky, and there have been times in the past I got so overwhelmed by looking at it that I passed out. I am terrified of big buildings, the ocean, the highway, large fields, big stores like wal-mart, etc. I am perfectly fine sitting in a closet for hours and hours, in fact I really enjoy it. It's very cozy.
I know a lot of people are claustrophobic, but I am the complete opposite.
I would rather live in a small house than a huge house.
Not sure if I will ever meet anyone with the same issues...
People are generally weirded out by my inability to look at the sky or the ocean. I even live at a beach!! But I don't look at it, I just listen to it and pretend I am somewhere safe and cozy.... like my closet.
Is there anyone elsel with the fear of wide open space? Or big enclosed spaces?

Seems u have issues with the unknown?   Like the sea the ocean is so big and deep, and mysterious the fear of going under the surface into  another world.       This fear of open spaces big spaces maybe its because feel threatened by stuff that cant control and when its small spaces its safe its within grasp mainly because its safe.
Also how old are u because going by pic look 17 etc maybe older but have to try and get some kinda of grip on this because if u want to travel and have independence then the sky is always going to be there and the ocean and huge spaces.   If make the decision to be scared and fearful of the sky ocean then going to let u into a box like where cant get escape etc become a recluse.
Its a sad fact even here am agrophobic cant go out all the time and hate going out the safety zone, many people give mercy to their fears like and although it might not seem like it now these factors

SKY
OCEAN
WIDE OPEN SPACES

Could trigger off an long duration of hiding away or avoiding.

What is it about the sky ocean and the other things u fear.

Sorry have only commented on these three realise theres others but theses are going to ruin your indepence if dont address them.

Sorry about that day it must of been awful and reading the other post in G A D room realise how bad it had become also sorry if said were 17 just look young there.
Realise that this probably has been done but have tried breathing exercises being able to relax.      Have to realise that if panic attack comes on so strong and its overwelming the thing to do is not let the panic worsen this can be done by deep breathing in through nose out through mouth.    Feel so bad for u as am 26 myself and have been in and out of anxiety related incidents or situations where wanted to be someone else  and drink alot to try and belong.
Be strong and sure will get through this although its not easy the only to get through this and let the body adjust to panic is to face it  by exposure what sort of security do u have etc grap onto handbag, mobile phone
What medication u on u taking beta blockers cause they can help take 2 a day here and they can help out with the panic. :action-smiley-065:

Haha, it's ok about the "17 year old" thing! I get that a lot.

All I take for my anxiety and everything is 100mgs of Zoloft.
I don't have a clue what BETA blockers are!! Let me know!
Thanks for the reply!!!

Beta blockers come in mg form like 10 mg or 20 mg am in scotland here so if in america which probably are then it might be different but check with doctor first as they might interfer with your other meds.
Propranolol That is what they are called.
